Title: Uploading Idea...
Description: permanent links?
tokage - April 30, 2006 06:11 PM (GMT)
hey mods... new member here, but i noticed you guys seem to be constantly trying to keep on top of refreshing YSI or sendspace links, and Rapidshare kinda....sucks unless you're a premium paid member cuz you have to wait like an hour between downloads. have you guys thought of using google? if you have a gmail account, you can sign up for a google webpage and you get 100 upload slots with no size restriction. they're permanent links that never expire.
just a thought.
there's a waitlist for googlepages at the moment, i believe, but i do have one that i'm not currently using for anything in particular, i'd be happy to donate the upload space to the forum.
please advise. :D

Nice idea you've got there. I don't know that Google webpage has that kind of service. I will talk about this with the media mods. Thanx for your feedback. :)
We're currently not having a server to upload. But in the future, we hope that we can have one to upload YUI media and such.
I'm also a G-Mail user. :)
Also thanx for your help offering. :)

If I still had my domain, I could have given it to you people for uploading the media. But alas, no point in giving an idea of something that I can't do.
There -is- also that idea of creating our own domain for file uploading... it's very convenient, but also a little bit money-consuming. Dunno. Gmail seems to be a much better option from here.

Are you sure about having 100 slots for uploading~? I read about it yesterday and it seems to be offering only 100mb of "space" instead of "slots"... I wonder...
Anyhow I'm quite happy with everything as it is now... :)
Ah... exam break... a week bfore the next paper... 1 down... 4 more to go... :huhuhu

I'm testing hosts right now and there are some sites that host files indefinitely. We
can use multiple accounts on those to spread the media files on. And we can use the
url redirects I've been using because they're easier to remember. Right now, I'm using
those urls to redirect to temporary hosting and just upload another batche again when
the downloads the urls link to dies, and then update the urls to redirect to the new
downloads.
And Google Pages only hosts 100MBs of files right now so it's not very feasible. I've tried 4shared.com (somebody posted here about doing that, too) and it looks good on
paper but it only allows one simultaneous download at a time. I'm still testing box.net,
orbitfiles.com, and wikiupload.com for upload and download speeds at different times
to test if the services are good and reliable.

Hmm...I think it will be hard to search for a free hosting that could host big big files. I think if you want to use a good hosting, you need to pay. :)
If I earn more money, I won't be hesitate to doit. :)

The ones I mentioned give 1GB on free accounts and wikiupload.com allows you to
upload up to 5GBs. Haven't tried that yet and it's a new service too so I'm not too
sure if it's stable yet.

5 GB? :blink that sure enough to upload some vids. :)
Hmm, I might discuss it with the mods.
