Ifrit - April 30, 2006 07:56 AM (GMT)
Anyone here like to read?
I do! XD
Mostly Tolkien, Lovecraft and Wells, but I also pick up a Tom Clancy or Zane Grey book if my father recommends it to me. :P
I am also, sooner or later, going to buy and read the Warcraft books (starting with the War of the Ancients trilogy).

Ifrit - May 1, 2006 01:30 AM (GMT)
How are the Harry Potter books compared to the movies? Would it be interesting for someone who is generally more interested in mature literature? I thought the movies were rather childish and boring.
blue cat - May 1, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)

I've read many books, but mostly manga... for some strange reason, I've stopped all together. Maybe I just haven't found any books that catch my interest.

In my opinion, the films (the "philosopher's stone" and "the chamber of secrets" mainly) are quite childish compare to the books, which are darker, because we exploit more and more the psychology of the main character Harry (his doubts, his fear...teenager's feelings in general) so it's really interesting.
I think you should try to read it at least once... in the first book it's possible that you feel "far" of the characters (because the principal characters are about 10 years old^^) but you become attached to them ! There's also existential questions, humour, and it's really nice to read.
Of course, I'm not the better person to tell my opinion because I'm a total HP addict, but if I can help you... :)
So, my readings :
All the Harry Potter
Da Vinci Code, Deception Point
A Serie of Unfortunate Events
His Dark Materials
Everworld
All the Chronicles of Narnia
Artemis Fowl
Eragon
Bridget Jones
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
and certainly more but I don't remember^^ These are my favorites.

I don't like reading books that much, because I lack imagination thanks to years of television watching. I would read books like Lord of the Rings and the DaVinci Code, but they look so long so I've been too lazy to even start XD . However, books that are written in very casual styles and/or in a diary format have always interested me :D.

The poem concerns events during the tenth and final year in the siege of the city of Ilion, or Troy, by the Greeks (See Trojan War). The word "Iliad" means "pertaining to Ilion" (in Latin, Ilium), the city proper, as opposed to Troy (in Greek, Τροία, Troía; in Latin, Troia), the state centered around Ilium, over which Priam reigned. The names "Ilium" and "Troy" are often used interchangeably.
(from Wikipedia, i haven't read it myself :D )
