Title: The Dark Knight

I'm surprised this topic hasn't come up yet. But anyways, this movie really deserves top honours.
***spoilers***
For an actor, it only takes one movie to launch you to super-stardom. Orlando Bloom has Legolas to thank. Johnny Depp has Captain Jack Sparrow. And as for Heath Ledger, the Joker was meant to be his trump card... ironically, the Dark Knight is the film that Heath Ledger will always be remembered for.
Putting aside Heath's stunning performance as the Joker (and maybe the way the movie is edited to honour Heath Ledger), what's compelling about the movie is the strong message that it brings across.
With a few manipulating words, even the good can be corrupted so easily in the case of Harvey Dent. Batman, too, was subjected to the manipulation by the Joker. The scene where the Joker told Batman to 'hit him' with his Batpod and the dialogue between the both of them in the police interrogation room were just one of many attempts.
I guess what's really missing from the movie is the fact that we don't see how the Joker became the mad lonely person he is. He has no gang, he trusts no one, he doesn't value anything - not even money, as he burns it all up. All we can see of his troubled past are the scars on his face.

Dude, no spoilers...
Thankfully, I've watched it already so the spoilers won't affect me that much.
Personally, the Joker was a big surprise for me. In the trailers he looks menacing and a little psychotic... In the movie, he's absolutely menacing and incredibly psychotic... more than I have imagined...
So that was a pleasant surprise for me.
Awesome movie with spectacular performance from the late Heath Ledger. I'll give this movie 10 out of 10 stars and his performance at 100 out of 10 stars... His performance is just perfect 10 times over.

yea interesting how nobody has started this topic
SPOILERS BEWARE!
This movie stands out ...i haven't seen a movie like this in AGES...i don't even consider it to be categorized into those "typical superhero" movies...
I have watched this movie twice; once in IMAX..and i still loved it...
Hm...although you don't really know about Jokers past..i'm really glad they didnt go thru the whole process of how he became The Joker..cuz it's too typical for a film/story line?...i loved how they just brought him in like that....a developed character who tickers with Batman's ideals
the only issue i had w/ the movie was that it was a bit too exciting haha what i mean is..there werent really any "breaks" for the viewer to take in what was happening..it was just bam bam bam..next next next...until pretty much the end
but i just loved how complex story developed and how it was done so well metaphorically through the characters (how Joker pretty much tests the limits of Batman and make him pretty much the THEEEE DARK KNIGHT he is)...thru the events (i loved that typical good guy boat vs the bad guy boat thing..)...the movie had my guessing and i really couldn't tell what was going to happen...compared to other movies i've seen before.. i really was shocked about who they saved between the 2 captured victims...and...even though there were a lot of repeated themes ..like how the truth isn't good enough sometimes, and how it goes into what it takes to be considered 'right'/good' ..what is evil...(white knight vs dark knight) and so on....
and man the design of the sets...the costumes/props...talk about details O__o...i mean it's not like crazy detailed fancy designs like in the Iron Man movie which im really glad they didn't do...they made Bruce Wayne/Batman realistic in a world like ours today..even though Gotham City is fictional...they made it practical and not really "fantasy superhero" genius Ironman and all those fancy gadgets...
yea I loved heath ledger ever since "10 things i hate about you/a Knight's Tale"...i was upset but i'm so glad he was chosen to play Joker's role...
even though Batman was the one who saved and did all the kickass fighting...i thinik Jim Gordon is the true hero in this movie....his efforts and how much he puts faith into others is amazing...
Harvey Dent/2 Face...was well casted as well..

yup.....totally agree it was Heath ledgers most bestest movie! i really didnt expect him to be able to act as joker like that >.< it so sad that he past away before the movie was even released :cry the movie was much longer than i had expected though... thought was end, then it jus carried on, thne u like ok this is the end, then carries on then u decide most definitely the end and bang the end PHEW finally, had to control myslef, the bathroom was SCRREAMIN for me =O the movie was ruined by the theatre though, for about 10 mins the screen just went blank..... so i was just like :what >.<
overall really enjoyed it, though i really disagree with the 9.5 it got from IMDB ;)

The Dark Knight was the best superhero movie i've ever seen!
What a magnificent storyline and roleplays by its actors. A long-awaited movie for over a decade. It really 'natural'. I mean, a movie with its hero and villains don't have SUPERPOWERS,only depend on technologies and natural emotions like vengeance,past-time experience etc? Man,it's incredible!
I watched it 3 times already..gonna make it 4 this saturday. :good
R.I.P HEATH LEDGER and LONG LIVE CHRISTIAN BALE!
A very well directed by CHRISTOPHER NOLAN.

Ppl said the movie was gud, so here i am, juz came back from watching it.
The movie is totally...awesome.
And the Joker sorta, erm...inspired me. Its lyk he showed what humans REALLY are. Easily corrupted and at the same time, selfish.

I didn't really liked Batman that much before.
Thus I wasn't planning on watching The Dark Knight.
But with all the hype and the film breaking one record after another, I thought I might wanna check this out.
So then I went and watched it...
and...
I'm glad I've watched this!!
I didn't expect it to be this good!
From the start to the end:It will keeps you compelled to it. (did I said that right?...)
So everyone has already said many good things about this.
But you guys forgot the MUSIC. The SCORE.
I'm listening to it right now again on YouTube:
The Dark Knight OST - Like A Dog Chasing CarsI think the music definitaly adds up to the tension of the film.
Comparison Old Batman Series vs New Batman Series:
I think the old batman series were more COMIC style. The older films of Tim Burton definitaly gives you the "Batman" Feel. The city, the customes and all that.
The new batman series are more realistic. Like how it would look in real life.
Looking forward to the next film.

this movie was cool!
it's one of the best movies i've ever watched..
rubberduck - August 29, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
I think the old Batman with Michael Keaton was very camp.. It was done in a very Tim Burton style (Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas)..
Batman Begins really set the scene for a much darker side of Batman and showed the ghosts that he is haunted by.
The Dark Knight extended on that, exposing the human side of Batman. Since he doesn't have any super-human abilities, he is vulnerable.
Heath Ledger's Joker was nothing short of amazing. He is one of the scariest bad guys of any movie, yet he is so non-chalant about it (e.g "Watch me make this pencil disappear").
I think Ledger will win an Oscar post-mortem for his portrayal of The Joker..
Edit: I think The Joker is best left the way he is. Everyone knows who he is, but revealing his past would remove the mystery. The way he tells stories about how he got the scars on his face, you don't know what to believe.
The fact that he has no gang is indicative of the way he is. He knows how to manipulate people to do what he wants, without having to give them anything. That is his power.
hungrydragon - August 31, 2008 03:22 AM (GMT)

PeaceOfYui - September 1, 2008 03:50 AM (GMT)
The joker looks kind of creepy.. I'm scared of clowns for those who are evil. Even those with many make-up...
Well my friend called it "The N-Black word Knight"
