Title: Japanese Drama
Description: Talk about dramas

ZiN - April 3, 2006 05:29 PM (GMT)
Well... the entertainment forum is pretty quiet... so let me start something here... anyone interested in Japanese dramas~?? anyone~?

I've just finished 2 series of dramas recently..

Densha Otoko
1 Litre of Tears

Yeah.. they are both two totally opposite kind of series... but I recommend that this 2 series are I think good :)

Some short info about both dramas that I took from Jdorama

Densha Otoko
Adapted from the best selling book "Train Man," this is the true life story of a geeky young man's romance with a beautiful young lady. The book is based on actual messages posted on a huge internet discussion board in Japan. A million internet users followed the Train Man's romance, giving him advices on how to impress the girl and take her out on dates. Train Man belongs in the so-called "Akiba-kei" category: a term that describes nerdy looking men who hang out at Akihabara (the famous electronics area in Tokyo) all day, who are obsessed with video games and computers.

1 Litre of Tears
Based on a true story

This story is about a girl named Aya who suffered from an incurable disease, but lived life to the fullest until her death at 25. The original story is based on the diary Aya kept writing until she could no longer hold a pen. The book that later followed entitled “One Liter of Tears" has sold over 1.1 million copies.

Aya's only wish was “to live." By carefully depicting Aya's earnest desire to live, and the love of her family, friends, and lover, the drama, “One Liter of Tears" wishes to deliver her simple but strong message: “Just being alive is such a lovely and wonderful thing."

I wonder if you guys are watching any dramas... any recommendation~?

jojo - April 3, 2006 07:44 PM (GMT)
1 litre of tears is the best dorama I've ever seen! It's sad most of the time but it has funny and cute moments. I think that this drama changes the way that you see life and definitely must see it! And you cry a litre of tears too T_T

I Also recommend:
- Hana Yori Dango
- Orange days
- Unfair
- Nobuta wo produce

I'm going to download Densha Otoko, it seems a great dorama^^

ZiN - April 3, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
Yeap... 1 Litre of Tears definitely gave me some motivation on life ^^ So many touching moments... I thought of downloading Graveyard of the Fireflies next... I've seen the anime of it... another touching story :P the anime was great but I don't know how about the reality show of it... hhmm... I wonder...

Anyway... Jojo... you should really get a hand on Densha Otoko... it's really a must must see drama... it's really fun to watch especially when you need something to cheer and open you up :)

Ohh... Hana Yori Dango is the Meteor Garden in Taiwan by those F4 *i don't like them* ... is the story the same or diff~?

jojo - April 3, 2006 09:20 PM (GMT)
I'm going to see Densha Otoko in youtube first ^^

I've never heard about Graveyard of the fireflies *searching right now^^*

I haven't seen the Taiwan version but you must see the Japanese version, it's very interesting and funny (I love the OST)

The OST of 1 litre of tears must hear it! (Sangatsu kokonoka and konayuki by Remioromen, Only Human by K)

bulmasman - April 3, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
I've only seen one Japanese Drama sadly, but i can't complain considering that drama was 1 Litre of Tears.
I loved it so much, the story really stuck with me and i can still picture various scenes clearly in my head. I loved it so much, it was beautiful, i just wish it didn't have a tendency to make me cry :(

bulmasman... you should try watching more Jdrama... some of them are really good ;)

I just finished watching another Japanese movie... Shinobi... if you like ninja stuff... I will say this is a must watch... the sceneries... screen captures... movie effects.. styles... are all very impressive... outstanding...

It's about 2 best shinobi (ninja) from 2 different clan were in love with each other... However the evil lord made the 2 clans fight with each other... Something quite different in this movie than the normal Japanese movies and dramas ;)

Be sure to check out the website too... the webbie is cool B)

btw... Graveyard of the Fireflies is nice too... good acting by the aunt and the two kids :)

jojo - April 7, 2006 04:23 AM (GMT)

I can list tons and tons of Japanese films for you (since I've seen a lot of Japanese films, as well as Korean films), but the list would be pretty long. Let me know though!!

But for now, three Japanese films (that also spawned Japanese drama series) that I highly recommend are:

1. "Ima, ai ni yukimasu" (English Title: Be with you)

2. "Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu", for short... "Sekachu" (English Title: Crying Out Love, In The Center Of The World)

3. "Densha otoko" (English Title: Train Man)

The film versions of the first two films "Ima, ai ni yukimasu" and "Sekachuu" are both intensely sad but beautiful love stories. And, the movie version of "Densha otoko" is different from the drama series but still a lot of fun!!

jojo - April 9, 2006 10:53 PM (GMT)
Thanks blue cat! I'm going to download those movies^^

Bunshichi - April 10, 2006 03:05 AM (GMT)

Does anyone of you watched GTO and Gokoussen Live Drama? Are they the same with their anime series?

fullyinsane - April 20, 2006 05:50 PM (GMT)
i dont really remembered about the GTO since i watched it when i was 14 years old....better redownload both anime and live action later to make comparison....about Gokusen i dont know since i still download the files since last week...i only read the manga before (recommended)

about Gokusen

Aired in Japan from April 17 to July 3, 2002 in the Japanese TV Broadcaster NTV, it consists of 12 TV Episodes and 2 Specials (It is said there's another special, need to confirm this). It is based on the Manga and Anime. Yamaguchi Kumiko is a beginning teacher specialized in Maths and she's ordered to teach a class of troublesome students. Kumiko is an awkward looking girl, unlike other teachers, she lacks a sense of fashion... Moreover, even though Kumiko might seem cute, innocent, yet geeky in the outside, she actually is strong due to the secret life she tries to hide. Kumiko is the hair for the 4th Generation of a important Tokyo Yakuza gang. The series is about Kumiko gaining the trust of these troublesome students in different unique awkward situations which includes drama, comedy, romance. This is a must see Japanese Drama Series. Yukie Nakama stars as Yamaguchi Kumiko.

now the series for Gokusen 2 also out:

I saw NANA and I loved it! Specially Ito Yuna song (Endless Story)^^. Nakashima Mika was perfect in the role of Nana, so as Miyazaki Aoi.

Itachi - April 22, 2006 12:15 AM (GMT)
Gokusen is one of my all time favorites. It was really funny when I last watched it. Great job on recommending it fullyinsane.

gilek - May 16, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
I also love that JDRAMA (GOKUSEN) it is currently airing in our country, but I've read that it's only 12 episodes, it's too short .

blue cat - May 17, 2006 11:30 AM (GMT)
But, aren't most J-DRAMAS around 11 or 12 episodes total?

Itachi - May 17, 2006 02:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah, you're right blue cat. Japanese dramas in most cases don't go far past 10 episodes. Korean dramas are closer to twenty and Chinese dramas seem to be quite long.

ZiN - May 18, 2006 01:37 AM (GMT)
Actually I prefer a short 10 episodes is good... rather than those 30 episodes series dragging the stories around... sometimes keeping it simple is actually good... direct to the point... but too bad most Japanese series or movies involve crying scene at least one... well... at least almost all that I've seen so far all has crying scenes... :swt they like to cry so much~ :?

They sure do!!!!! :P

But, I'll join them in crying if the scene is really really sad and depressing... :huhuhu

In the drama series version of "Densha Otoko", the main actress is Misaki Ito.

And in the film version of "Densha Otoko", the main actress is Miki Nakatani.

Hope that helps. :)

ZiN - May 22, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)
Misaki Ito > Miki Nakatani :P

I just have to say it... coz I find the movie is not as attractive after watching the series... Not only due to Misaki Ito... The sound effect... the casts... the style... everything just the series is much better than the movie itself...

I definitely know that the drama series version of "Densha Otoko" is much more popular than the film version, even though both were extremely successful.

On a side note, I started watching the drama series version of "Sekachuu". So far, I can't say I like it better than the film but it's definitely really good and certainly adds more depth to the characters (which the film didn't have). :D

I just finished watch 1 litre of tears. I laughed, I cried, I laughed while crying. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone know where i can dl the song they sang as a class. It's really nice. Densha Otoko looks good, I think that'll be my next target. Going back to 1 litre of tears, I think the actress would be too old to play kaoru in Taiyonouta don't you guys think?

It's a great drama right? I think that she's a bit old to play Kaoru but she's a great actress and after watching 1 Littoru no namida I'm sure that she is going to do a good job playing Kaoru. Anyway, here is the song! The name is Sangatsu Kokonoka by Remioromen.
