I wouldn't treat her lyrics as an autobiography though there might be some truth in it. ^^

In any case, YUI does think of herself as a writer/storyteller. Quoting an interview recently, she mentioned about the 'main characters' in her album. Each of the tracks has its own main character with their respective 'yesterday'(past or story). But all of them have the same desire to become more reliable/firm and altogether a better person. That's why most of the songs has a sense of trying to move forward despite whatever is happening now or in the past. There really is a deep meaning behind the album title eh.

I'd put My Friend in the same 'book' as My Generation despite the different styles. Hehe, simple because of the same kind of school imagery it provides(and about YUI's past). ^^

I know that it has been translated already but, as I was translating this for my friend who asked me to, I thought of sharing with everyone here as well.

In the song 'My Friend', the ambiguous relationship of being more than a friend, yet less than a lover, is being described. It also gives us a glimpse at a part of YUI's 'precious past'.

"Sometimes, something (that we are looking for) is right next to us, yet we just simply do not take the initiative (to confirm). When we realize, we have separated, without even saying 'I like you' or even 'good bye'. (bitter laugh) And that is something that warms my heart now. It is because something like that had happened, that makes me want to work hard right now."

speaking of TOKYO, the ending performance in the budokan special in the bonus dvd is magically moving. just watching it on tv made me teary. YUI's not afraid to show her vulnerability but she's always striving on. isn't that what we love about her

Assuming the friend is a schoolmate, I wonder if it's during middle school or high school. I know she went to a private girls high school(and worked part time to fund her education) for a while before quitting to pursue her dream in music.

Of the whole 3rd album, my favourite so far is definitely "My Friend."

I would class it right to my all-time favourite "Understand" (wah..I only have the albums so I don't have that song). Blue Wind is one of my favourites too!
