Hey ppl, ever thought of anything bad of being a guitarist?
to me it's :
1. Hafta cut your fingernails every 2 or 3 days. damn troublesome....
2. U get depression easier, due to feeling depressed when u lost your guitar pick.
3. Get scolded often to lower the volume of your amplifier.
4. Can't concentrate when revising your studies due to your guitar sitting there "seducing" you to play it.
5. The end of your fretting fingers gets 'hardened'.
6. U cant help joining when u hear ppl talking bout guitars.
so guys, do you haf anything bad to say being a guitarist?

1. don't really have to cut every 3 days, and i can leave out the thumb nails of my left hand and the nails of the little finger on the right hand
2. i rarely use pick
3. not using e-guitar yet
4. i left my guitar locked when it's time for revision
5. there are skin care lotion for hand
6. i can restrain myself well
conclusion: i had nothing bad to say on being a guitarist

Hell yeah haha. i don't realli cut my nails too often. think of it as training LOL if yu can fret properly with long nails then yu can fret damn easily without long nails ^^ and i don't lose my picks, but neither do i use my picks HAHA and i TOTALLY AGREE with the lowering of volume. it's never enough isn't it :angry my fingers don't harden though, and i play the guitar A LOT. like through the night and then i go to school.
cherii - March 23, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
Haha...I usually just cut my left fingernails when they bother me when playing guitar. Eventually I'll cut the other side...since I'm lazy like that. ^_^
I have lots of picks, so I won't be stressing about that for a while. I have an acoustic guitar, so it's all good...and I'm pretty far away from the rest of my family. XD 4th one, definitely. Anytime I have something to do, I see my guitar and I HAVE to play it.
Haha. Cross.
I smile when I hear people talking about guitars, but unless its someone I know, I won't be like, "Hey! What's this all about guitars?" Lol.
My fingers aren't as bad as it could be. At least they're not green like SOME people. (can't remember who it was)
Anyway, I think that the Pros outweigh the Cons~

If you're not turning green, that means you haven't practice enough. =P

No such thing as a disadvantage of being a guitarist! :shock -_-
I love everything about being a guitarist! I'm proud of my calluses! =D
tsunvun86 - March 24, 2008 02:53 AM (GMT)
If it's turning green that means yr strings r rusting n u're not taking care of yr guitar...
And that also means you don't wash yr hands......
nataliejwong - March 24, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
1) Bad back/posture (especially if you're standing with your guitar)
2) Hydrating your guitar (sometimes, I forget to soak humidifers.. heh)
3) Losing your picks (...I use my fingers instead)
Note: If you're fingers are turning green, it means your strings are oxidizing from your sweat and environment around it. It is important to wipe your strings once you're done playing your guitar.
If you buy 'coated' strings like
Elixir strings or
Dean Markley Alchemy strings, it'll add extra protection over your strings, but you still need to wipe your strings every time you finish playing with it.
arnoldonicolas - March 24, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
That's correct... If your fingers are turning green that means your strings are rusted.
Nothing bad to say on being a guitarist, and I'm agree with Cross but... "you never owned all the things you want"... because always want more...
=O

LOL. wanting to buy every nice guitar usee. haha i dont cut my fingernails that often, it duznt bother me i had like really long fingernails cuz i was lazy but i played guitar fine, lmao, i just adapt to it haha. and i tend to talk to everyone i see with a guitar lmao. i was just in france and spain with my school group on a trip. i saw like street performers, and after they performed i had to go talk and play with them, haha. there was another bunch of tourists with a guitar on the subway and i had to talk to them too. LOL its like an urge haha.
another bad thing is we want to talk about guitars to non-guitarists, and might talk about our guitars like people, and like try to spread the guitar love and convert people. hahahaha. and then people think we're nuts haha

Ah, ah, I don't have the pick problem because I don't play with pick. Each time I dare to pick one and play with it, it sounds like shit, so I continue to play with my finger.
So, yeah, I have the nail problem. Have to cut it once a week or two weeks. I also have the right hand nail broking when I don't want to.
I also have the "You don't have enough money to own the guitars you want" problem. Maybe the biggest problem. You play the guitar, so you like guitars. You likes guitars, so you look into those guitars catalogues. You look into those damn catalogues, and you see those Martin, Gibson, Taylor guitars and you start wanting some of them... It's a vicious cycle...
You have to buy strings... and change it. And take (even just a little) care of it. I wish someone build a guitar with eternal strings wich can be used for ever.
I think it's enough for the problems... all the rest is just joy ... or something else.

Is that because you play lullaby or sleepy songs ?
Is that the same when you play songs like "Rolling Star" ?

Besides 1 and 3, the rest of your list are the reason why I LOVE guitar so much. I've been thinking of saving up and buy myself an electric. Maybe getting a job this summer.

I REALLY WANT THIS GUITAR~~ :please
