Can some recommend me some sad Japanese movie?

shinji_tono - February 17, 2008 04:03 AM (GMT)
try 1 Litre no Namida. I haven't watched it yet but I heard it's a lot saddening compared to the drama.

another: Sekai no Chuushin wo, Ai wo Sakebu
the drama was heart-breaking and I can't stop my tears from falling down. I haven't finished it yet because I can't bring myself to. I've watched the movie version but I didn't cry much, I don't know why but if you'd really pay much to the impact of events then I think you will.

and HEAVENLY FOREST!!! oh blimey, don't be fooled by the surface and initial impression. I was wrong there! I really cried so bad when it was nearing the end and all of the events were given meaning! A MUST!!! if you didn't cry then you're a damn robot!

Taiyou no Uta by our dearest YUI-san is a MUST WATCH!!! but it's not the hard core tear-jerker that I usually want but I had a good cry on this because of the simplicity of the story and flow of events. Merlin's Beard, YUI-san made me cry. :cry

I have many to watch sad JMovies to my 'to watch' list and I'll recommend them as soon as I've watched them (that is when I finsih my major exams).

eiga wo tanoshimi!!! :good

Was there a 1 litre of tears movie? Anyway the drama serial is really good if you want a movie to moist your eyes throughout.

As for 'Sekai no Chuushin de Ai wo Sakebu', I only watched the drama so i don't know much about the movie. The drama was excellent. I loved it a lot. I remember feeling teary on the first episode. Haha, I read the novel too. But from what I heard from friends, the movie wasn't as good as the drama cuz they tried to squeze everything into a shorter time.

Perhaps you could try 'Nada Sou Sou' too. Even though the ratings for it were rather low, I found it very nice. Maybe its cuz I like Nagasawa Masami! hehe.

I read 'Sono Toki wa Kare ni Yoroshiku' and 'Tegami' too. (Both were movies made into novels.) Both were quite touching too.

^ yeah depy, there is a movie for 1 Litre no Namida. I have it here on my laptop but haven't watched it yet.

as for Sekai no Chushin (Sekachu for short) I agree with you. that's why I recommended the drama more than the movie. all was squeezed in, that's why I stated that you'd only cry if you analyze the events carefully.

I have Nada Sou Sou too and is my next to watch movie. they say that it is not as tear-jerker as its name indicates but the poll result when people were interviewed in Japan about the saddest films they've watched, Nada Sou Sou was included in the top 10 together with Taiyou no Uta. I'm really itching to watch it! damn the exams! :angry

I've watched Sono Toki wa Kare ni Yoroshiku too and it was touching though not the tear-jerker type. and I'm about to download Tegami too.

what I do have here that I think are tear-jerkers or at least sad movies are:

Anata wo Wasurenai (26 Year Diary)
Antenna
Be With You
Heaven Can Wait, Maybe

I haven't watched them yet and I have many to download titles that I think are sad JMovies.

I'll just update you when I've watched them to recommend them to you.

hmm I watched Nada Sou Sou...i didnt think it was THAT sad ...actually i kinda got annoyed watching the movie...i forgot the actress name but i know she's quite popular..but her whiney voice when she called her brother so many times kinda got to me *no offense*...

you can check out the other movie she's in "Sono Toki wa Kare ni Yoroshiku AKA: When You See Him, Say Hello for Me (2007)" the movie has the guys from the Taiyou no uta drama AND movie (Takashi)

but yes i definitely recommend Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru AKA "Heavenly Forest" (2006) and Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu AKA: Be With You (2004). Watch Be With you first....then Heavenly Forest....to me I found Heavenly Forest' photography reaaaaally beautiful and stunning and Aoi Miyazaki adorable and really good...

and yes i hear 1 litre of tears drama >>> movie ..never watched the movie myself but the drama made me cry like a baby

this person uploads and subs some j-movies...i dont necessarily agree with ALL their reviews/ratings but there are some good ones listed!

Haha the actress is Nagasawa Masami. I do agree that she has a whiny voice. But I liked her a lot in Proposal Daisakusen! And she's the same age as YUI! (ie same age as me!)

I watched i litre no namida.. was the saddest drama i've ever watched..dunno about the movie though..

>ch|yo< - February 19, 2008 01:24 AM (GMT)
1 rittoru no namida's movie ain't that nice...
everything was too fast forward unlike the drama one
and its not as sad as the drama one...you guys can try watching it...but i wouldn't recommend it

shinji_tono - February 19, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
^ oh really? I do think that's the disadvantage when it comes to movies. it's the same with Sekai no Chushin de, Ai wo Sakebu. guess every essential situation couldn't fit in 2 hrs.

s0l1dsn8k3 - February 26, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
Well ... movie may be shorter, but it really depends how the movie screenplay is written. A well written screenplay with good character connections and development can make long story work in a movie setting.

I agree with gotchi's two recommendations. Both of them are fantastic movies. Heavenly Forest definitely has very good cinematography. I should watch Be With You drama version and see that is any good. But the movie cast of that movie is very good with Yuuko Takeuchi.

YUI_Friend - March 6, 2008 05:27 PM (GMT)
I just watch Heavenly Forest and it was so sad. :cry

asapin - March 7, 2008 06:31 AM (GMT)
Well,I love Masami-chan(She's my no.1 Japanese idol. I can talk about her all day. :suki ) and I love her voice.I think it's kawaii~ However,I can understand that it might be too whiney for some people.

Depyon,me too. I really like Proposal Daisakusen. It was amazing, really touched my heart. :cry

Ok,let's answer the topic. :yoyo

When I watched Nada Sou Sou for the first time, I didn't cry as much as the second time. I think it is because I understood and was in the mood for the movie so I cry. For me, Nada is sadder than Sekai.

I have more recommended Japanese sad movies.

- Nada Sou Sou mini series(About Hiroshima Bomb,starring Masami,too.)
- Lemon no koro(a good coming of age movie)
- Rainbow Song (I didn't cry but I really felt sad.)
