Title: Which was the first YUI song you heard?
depyon - February 15, 2008 02:38 PM (GMT)
I know for many people, the first songs they heard were probably LIFE or ROLLING STAR, or maybe Goodbye Days.
For me, the song i first heard was Tomorrow's Way. My first impression was that she could sing quite well, and I liked the melody of that song.
The second song I heard from yui was Life. And I liked it a lot too. So knowing 2 nice songs from the same singer, I decided to search about her. And to my surprise, I found out that she's the same age as I! (in fact she's only 42 days older than me.)
And soon I got to know more about her, and started to develop my love and admiration for yui!
Share with us which was the first song you heard, and which song actually got you into her!

The first song I hear from Yui was Tokyo, but it was the video, it went through the channel Animax ... and my first impression was :sayw :shock :please :suki :good ... what a beautiful song (i almost cry) and then I note that this video is spent every day at the same time 11:55 pm so every day I was waiting for watching her singing in the video (it was for months)
And from that day I have been an admirer of Yui....a Yui Lover!! :clap
Shibito2501 - February 15, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
My first one was Rolling Star, i saw the live in Music Station i think...and i said...."wow...she´s really cute" ...."and the song is awesome!!!!!" :shock
but i did´t follow her carrer in that time because I had a lot of work in the university.......several months later when the single Love & Truth was out, YUI Appeared in some TV Show (HEYx3 Special) and sang "JAM".....and again :shock
from that moment i´m a YUI-Lover

TôKyô !
My first Yui song experience was on Youtube. "Tôkyô" live, on MTV japan. The file have been taken off Youtube since then, because of pyrights I think, but I still remember it. She was wearing a black TShirt and the performance was wonderfull.
mangomalte - February 15, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
like many others, LIFE from Bleach. i really liked the song, but i didn't check her out more until i chatted with a guy at an anime forum and we discussed the best intro and outro songs. and then we both became big fans. :lol: that was just after Good-bye Days was released. :)
yupeh - February 15, 2008 11:10 PM (GMT)
It's Rolling Star and LIFE for me too. But I fell in love with LIFE more. I don't really know what motivated me to become her fan *memory gap lol*
nandi - February 15, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
LIFE, with the bleach's finnishing....
depyon - February 16, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
Hmm one more thing to add. Despite all the good songs that I heard from YUI, there was still some sort of a barrier to really 'love' her.
And this barrier was broken when I first heard her sing LIVE, be it on MS or Youtube.
I guess a LIVE concert or performance can really break the barrier between the singer and his/her fans.
And of course, it was after watching the YUI documentary 'Thank You My Teens' that I really understood about her background. Also, seeing her most natural self (in the documentary) was a total delight. Her humble background did motivate me a lot too.

teguyfrom2l - February 16, 2008 05:14 AM (GMT)
For me, it was "My Generation". Found it somewhere on another forum which I used to visit and I really enjoyed the song. Then, I went to search for a subbed version of the song and felt that I could really relate to it. Since then, I've been a Yui-Lover XD

heh Kaiser, i'm not really quoting your msg, but your signature. What do you mean by 'I want the old YUI back'. lol.
But true enough, i really like many of her old songs like Tokyo, Feel My Soul, Tomorrow's Way, Life, Crossroads, It's Happy Line etc. Of course I like her newer songs too. Perhaps it's the memories (that I have with the songs) attached to the older songs that I feel closely to.

I saw first Tomorrow's way, I was totally impressed by her; at the point I write a poem about the video
En el silencio me encontraba;
en la oscuridad yo residía;
tu llegada yo esperaba,
que trajieses la alegría.
Tu mensaje me llegó;
tu canción yo oiría;
tu música me traspasó,
de tu guitarra al alma mía.
La guitarra atacando,
tus dedos volarían;
y tu voz acompañando,
la más dulce melodía.
Rodeábate la belleza,
tu alma la producía;
tu rostro, bondad expresa,
con tu hermosura se fundiría.
Tu piel, esa blancura,
del bello color del día;
tus ojos, esa frescura,
de la plenitud y la alegría.
Tu canción era un llamado,
y del mañana, la vía;
y un niño iba escapando,
los audífonos dejaría.
La música se silenció;
tu voz sola se oiría;
tu mirada me tocó;
en mi alma reposaría.
Mirándome fijamente,
tu alma, sentir, me harías;
retenida en mi mente,
por siempre te quedarías.
Terminose la canción,
la cabeza bajarías;
y tu rostro una oración,
la más bella que vería.
Negros tus cabellos,
y el viento los mecía,
impregnándose de bello,
que tu le cederías.
En la última mirada,
una sonrisa esbozarías;
y en mi alma grabada,
felicidad me prometerías.

Oh that's wonderful. It'd be great if you could translate it into English though!

Incidentally, may i ask how can i change my 'Hey! Yui is good!' to something else? I see that some people actually have customized ones. Thanks!

It was LIFE in Bleach. I didn't like it though, I still don't really like the TV size version, but after listening to the full version, I completely fell in love with it (and it's still my fav YUI song to date).

For me it was TOKYO....
An "internet friend" of mine told me that he had discovered a new japanese singer... I wasn't in japanese music at all but as we had the same tastes, I downloaded TOKYO's PV out of curiosity... And fell in love with the song. After that I waited for the release of FROM ME TO YOU but it wasn't until the release of Good-bye days/Taiyou no uta that I became a real fan (well... I kinda already was before but I reached another level :P)
Alpharius - February 17, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
The first song I heard was Its Happy Line and Feel My Soul, it was when I was on the airplane from Tokyo to Hongkong, they played it on one of the channels that you can listen to while in flight. =)
gotchi - February 17, 2008 10:56 PM (GMT)
it was "Feel my soul" and then "LIFE"..then i listened to her album but i wasn't too big of a fan yet...her singles just kept appearing in a lot of media i was watching like BLEACH and movie...
i was like who is this? i keep hearing her songs so i knwe i had to check out this talented individual and i got really hooked around the time Good-bye days-Rolling star & I remember came out...
Panukeku - February 17, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
Ahaha, for me it was LIFE.
I tried to search up her songs afterwards on an anime-song download site- and I confused her with YUI HORIE. Which, I was confused because I was like "Wth happened to her voice?!" *disappointed* (no offence to all Yui Horie fans.)
Ahaha, but then, LUCKILY I had a friend who was a fan of her. I listened to one of her songs (Tomorrow's Way, I believe. Or Tokyo. One of those 2, definitely) and I was like: Wow! Who sang this!
And she was like: YUI.
Me:... O.O (realization and hope dawning*)
Ahaha.
That was 2 years ago. It was before From Me To You came out.
=3 YUI, zutto daisuki dayo~ <3 zutto.

no offence... but you really can't compare YUI with Horie Yui. =P
Shinyi - February 18, 2008 05:23 AM (GMT)
I guess it'd be "Its Happy Line" for me~
Unless she sang another song before that in Taiyou no Uta.
