Title: Help with buying a new e-guitar >< !!
Description: YUI's?
finix65 - February 5, 2008 09:56 PM (GMT)
I'll be getting an e-guitar soon and i dunno what to pick !! so many different brands O_O but i can narrow it down to about 3 or 4 hehe~ :good
I WANT A YUI ONE :suki
Like either the red one in rolling star, the yellow-black in love and truth or the one in jam which is impossible to see HAHA or the my generation one!! If anyone can help me identify them it'll be a great help ^^ it doesn't have to be the exact one (that's impossble ne?) just the brand and hopefully something similar. My budget's pretty high haha. like 300-600?? XD :sry
Prefably i'd like the rolling star one or the my generation one.
Yoroshiku ne? Tonomimasu!!
EDIT: MY BUDGET IS S$300-S$700. SINGAPORE DOLLAR

300-600 can get Squier or Made in Mexico Fender. YUI's Telecasters are Made in America, not sure about her Stratocasters though, based on the price, it should be Made in Mexico.
EDIT:
'50s Strats are Made in Mexico.
Don't ask me the difference, I'm a guitar noob >.<
shinji_tono - February 6, 2008 12:08 AM (GMT)
good choice! Fender guitars are great! the one in Rolling Star is her Candy Apple Red Squier. if I'm not mistaken it is a Squier. but her Sunburst is really one awesome guitar! very sexy and classy! here in our place the Squier Stratocasters are on sale for 10,000-12,000 if I remember it correctly. that's about $200 or even less. dollar is fluctuating. XD
I say just go for the SUNBURST!!! :hee
asuna - February 6, 2008 04:45 AM (GMT)
Fender Sunburst Telecaster!!! :clap
Its a rather simple choice if you're aiming for a YUI guitar:
Strat vs Tele - Strats sound brighter and sharper, but are also very versatile due to the triple pickups (unless u go for a custom, warmer sounding dual-humbucker version). Telecasters sound more old-school.
In other words - Strats for rockin' and crazy solos, Telecasters for jazz, blues, alternative and old-school rock.
Squier vs Fender - Of course Fenders are the real deal, but if u want to be like dear YUI, u can make a Squier your first guitar. Squier is actually a sub-company of Fender, they make budget models. They're MUCH cheaper, look exactly like Fenders, though sound quality may suffer slightly.
the best way to choose is to walk into a Fender shop and just try out the guitars there until u find one u really like!
nataliejwong - February 6, 2008 04:54 AM (GMT)
If you're starting out, I suggest you test out the entry-level electric guitars. Squier would be an ideal brand to start with, but there are many other electric brands you should try out with... maybe Yamaha or Ibanez.
I believe YUI plays the Fender Stratocaster (Sunburst) in My Generation, and Telecaster in her JAM PV.
I know Fenders cost around $600 and up in Canada. Where do you live too? What's your currency?
NOTE: Stratocaster tend to be lighter than Telecasters. Strats have double cutaways, and teles only have one cutaway. Both guitars also differ in sound/feel, but I'm not too knowledgeable about it, so I'll leave that to the electric gitboxists.

Get a telecaster, get a telecaster, get a telecaster - go with your gut and get YUI's red guitar - the TELECASTER :good

Don't listen to Cross.
Nah, go with the STRATOCASTER. YUI loves stratocasters more than telecasters.
:cool

Get a Stratocaster~~~~~~~
Sunburst~~!!!
Stratocaster > Telecaster :P
*runs*
shinji_tono - February 6, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
Sunburst is a really great guitar! as asuna-san said, Stratocaster guitars produce much sharper pitched sounds and are mostly for Rock songs and Telecasters are more versatile, soft-sounded but still electric. pretty much an acoustic guitar. actually if you'd ask me I say that it is a better option since you could play almost any of YUI-san's songs using the telecaster. be it her electrical or even acoustic songs. If you watched Music Lovers then what she did in her CHE.R.RY performance is the perfect example. she played the song using her telecaster if I'm not mistaken. the black one.
though it'd be also wise to buy first beginner guitars and Squier is a good one especially if you're after Fender. I myself bought a SA-100 Squier electric guitar, the beginner's package acoustic set. there are lots of available packaged Squier electrics here, beginner package too. Stratocaster and Telecaster. I saw YUI-san's Candy Apple Red and I think her black one too if I recognized it right.
so good luck!
but SUNBURST is realy such a nice choice!!! :hee
atheon - February 6, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
^ Since when dear YUI has black Telecaster???
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ssbO3usAaNwI think they kinda 'mixed' the acoustic guitar part in this performance as well.
And the Telecaster in Rolling star PV is a Fender American Telecaster.
Don't mess with my YUI guitar knowledge LOL.
Judging that she has both Sunburst Telecaster and Stratocaster, she must be liking this yellow black colour very much.
But then she has TWO red Telecasters..........

strat strat strat!!
get a strat!
cant go wrong with a strat... everyone uses it...

XxcronoxX - February 6, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
Get a Stratocaster!!! Sunburst^^
tsunvun86 - February 7, 2008 02:24 AM (GMT)
I think shinji was confused by the 2 names :P
It should be the other way around. The strat is the more versatile one.
Cross - February 7, 2008 03:00 AM (GMT)
Both guitars are equally versatile - A Strat comes in several configurations, such as 3 single coils, 2 single coils and a humbucker at the bridge pickup, or more uncommonly a double humbucker combination. A telecaster normally has a single coil at the neck and a humbucker at the bridge, but there are some models that come with dual humbuckers as well. No matter what pickup configuration you prefer, or however many pickups you have in a guitar, it all boils down to how you develop your playing style, through training both your ears and fingers. You can create many different sounds from any guitar simply by playing with the pickup selector switch, rolling off the tone knob, adjusting the volume to your guitar, attacking the strings in different ways, etc.
As time goes on, you will start to hone in on your guitar-playing skills and learn that any guitar can be suited for any genre of music. I would argue against Shinji's point about a telecaster being softer - a tele has more wood to the body, and thus the projection of sound tends to be a bit warmer, round and fat whereas a strat has a brighter and crisp tone. BOTH are equally suited for rock. Your best bet on deciding which guitar you want would be to pick up each model, sit it on your lap and strum around for a few minutes and select the one that feels best to you. Best of luck on your decision, you can't go wrong with either model.
finix65 - February 7, 2008 05:15 AM (GMT)
Do the sunburst stratocasters come in chrome red like the rolling star one? Cause i reeeeaaaaally want the american telecaster but the stratocaster seems so much better @@

asuna - February 8, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
I'd say they're around the same pricing... if u compare similar models.
yeah a Fender Stratocaster Standard costs around 1.2k SGD. Other models like the American Classic cost more of course...
natsumi - February 9, 2008 08:49 AM (GMT)

that's why you need to get it. FAST!
hurry up and rock it on!!!
nataliejwong - February 11, 2008 02:02 AM (GMT)
I don't think it's a neck customization. Most models should come with either rosewood/maple neck for Fenders gitboxes. Maples do look nice, but they do give the guitar a more sharper sound than rosewood necks. Personally, rosewood feel better to my fingers... even though maple necks look nice with its lighter appearance.
natsumi
YUI's acoustics don't have maple fingerboards! :) I know you're talking just her electrics... :P
finix65 - February 11, 2008 12:52 PM (GMT)
Sigh i have to get it on my own. almost there now hehe~ i've saved up 1k already. about 200-400 more. and oh the standard feels better? haha maple looks so smooth

GO GET THE SUNBUUUUUUURST!!! LOL XD
once you've bought your lovely guitar go and post your freakin' picture here and let us drool for somewhile. :hee

nataliejwong - February 12, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
Not an electric player... prefer acoustics more. I have played my friend's Stratocasters though. Rosewood fingerboard does feel nicer than maple, but it may be different with you. Everyone has their own preferences.
But yep, when you get your Strat, be sure to post some snaps of it here. :)
Tezuka - February 26, 2008 10:10 AM (GMT)
i really like her maple sunburst strato but mine is rosewood one coz it matches the color better IMO :P
another famous artist using same guitar is ken from Laruku if im not mistaken :)
:please
j.k - February 26, 2008 10:56 AM (GMT)
me noob talking here, haha.
i dun think you can get a Fender one without at least 1k singapore dollar (i think, coz i dunno the prices of gigs in singapore). But if you're gonna buy a Squier one, i would recommend other brands.
I woulda bought a Squeir one if it was a few years earlier, but not now. Their quality control kinda sux now. BUT if you're lucky, you will still be able to get a nice Squier, coz not all Squier sux.
Juz my opinion.
>ch|yo< - February 26, 2008 11:06 AM (GMT)
why don't you go to the shop only decide on the colour?
personally i would prefer sunburst...they are freggin awesome colours
but at the end its still up to you..its your guitar...
make your own choice..good luck!

speedphantom - February 29, 2008 02:22 PM (GMT)
If it is your first guitar, a Fender Standard Strat would be good however if you decide to get a Squier Strat, make sure its a Squier Affinity Strat since that's the best budget model Strat in my belief.
I've personally got a Squier and I think its more than enough to get you started if its your first electric guitar. I'm of the opinion that you should start cheap as a beginner before buying an expensive guitar after becoming a more competant guitarist.
