Title: Name of chinese restaurant where YUI worked
Description: Anyone know it?

Fandan - February 3, 2008 06:51 AM (GMT)
Hey all, in Live and Document, they showed where YUI worked when she was 16. Do you know what the place was called or what neighborhood it is in?

Thank you,

It's a Chinese restaurant called WEST, near Shingu, Fukuoka.

Official website:

YUI Wiki: http://wiki.livedoor.jp/yui_net123/d/YUI%c...%d3%a3%d4%a1%c1

Google map:

Their website is interesting......

Btw, the thing YUI ate in TYMT documentary was Suupaiko スーパイコ (Sweet and sour pork).

WOW thanks Atheon!! I didn't expect anyone would be able to answer in time, but you saved the day (well tomorrow since it's too late to go now and I just ate). I was in the mood for some Chinese food so I wanted to drop by and try some.

Hopefully I can find it using the map. It was really hard finding someone who knew where Shin Shin is located.

The maps for shin shin are all in Japanese though...

Take the photo of that 3 YUI's signatures in the shop if you found Shin Shin ya~ Or if you already been there, did you take photos of YUI signatures? Waht about the hotdog stall lol.

Enjoy your trip in Fukuoka =D

I went to Shin Shin yesterday and it wasn't what I expected. First, it's kind of a hole in the wall place, and a lot smaller than I expected. I asked 6 people if they knew where it was before a worker at a Mos Burger told me where it was. I think there were 4 tables total like the one YUI and staff sat at in the documentary. There are also two bars that seat maybe 4 people each. So all in all, it's a small place where indie bands and performers visit. It was kind of weird going in there. I dropped by on a Saturday evening and then when I returned later that night and actually went inside, there weren't many people either time. I was going to take pictures of the outside when it was still daylight but there's an aerobics class right upstairs and there were young women in tights doing aerobics, so I didn't want to seem like a hentai taking pictures of women working out :sry .

Inside, as soon as the workers realized I wasn't a local, I got kind of an awkward treatment, and they recommended the same thing as with artunee and probably all foreigners, simple ramen in a tonkatsu soup base with pork and no frills. It was tasty, but not the best I've had. YUI's three signs are right above the serving counter, so it's kind of deceptive in the live and documentary when they pan to them and it looks like it's right near where YUI sat. With the silent awkwardness, I didn't have the courage to take any pictures inside. I might go again before I leave Fukuoka. Sorry for the long essay, I'm still jet-lagged so I'm hyper right now. RIP Slyme (J-hip hop group) also has a signature card on the wall.

Hello Fandan. So you are now in Fukuoka? Are you on vacation? At Shin Shin, I asked them about the menu YUI like the best (I asked them in Japanese), and the worker there told me it's Ramen.

About taking picture inside Shin Shin, I just shot them as I like :cool . No need to think too much, go ahead, shoot them, and don't forget to share your pictures (also your trip pictures).

ps. Did you see the spot that YUI used to do street live (the one in It's happy line MV)? It's not far from Shin Shin. If you are from Shin Shin, just walk back to a subway station (Tenjin), when you arrive at an intersection there, just cross that intersection and it is the entrance/exit on the right hand side. If you can't find it from outside. It is an exit no.7 when you're in the subway station. Or see my old post about Fukuoka here.

Hey artunee, yes I am on vacation and in Fukuoka until tomorrow.

When you talked to the worker at Shin Shin, was he happy to talk or did he act like you were bothering him? The one big cook guy stared at me when I was walking around looking for YUI's cards, and he only stopped because I stared back at him, then he nodded and looked away. It was weird.

I found YUI's Tenjin station lives location pretty easily. By luck I walked out of Tenjin station at exit #7 and there it was. It's a lot more enclosed a spot than I expected. I could feel YUI's presence there, it was sweet.

I already checked your post a few times yesterday and today so I could get directions :)

I found YUI's Chinese restaurant thanks to atheon. I didn't get a chance to identify Aya or Satoko, but I think they were the ladies who served my lunch, supaiko set 1 :clap. Delicious! They played a muzak version of Love&Truth as one of the songs for the atmosphere music.

Shingu beach is beautiful, but too cold this time of year. I think it is the same month YUI went in the live and document. It really is pretty chilly, even this far south. Hokkaido will be very cold next week!

The one I talked to was quite young guy, and he talked to me like normal(maybe cos I talked to him in Japanese).

It was good that you found that Chinese restaurant. I didn't find any info about this one at that time, when I go to Fukuoka again, I'll visit there for sure. I agree with town_el about atheon, she is the best at finding any info about YUI :good .

It seems you're on the long vacation. How many days do you plan to stay in Japan? I'm sure you'll be chilled in Hokkaido. =P

Anyway, have a nice trip.

I'm here for 20 days, traveling from almost northern tip to southern tip. I just got back from a yatai stand like they tell you about in japan-guide.com. It was great. I went in all awkward and unsure because as soon as I told the serving guy "nihongo-ga dekimasen" he pretty much ignored me so I'd leave. I stayed anyway and had a great time. A Japanese salaryman type who said he didn't understand Aigo (but I'm pretty sure he did) made it a great time, along with this group of 4 young Japanese guys. One pretended he didn't speak aigo, but then I found out he's majoring in English at university. Between him and the salaryman, they translated all the crazy American stuff I was saying and we had a great time. Plus the salaryman paid for the entire meal, which wasn't cheap because we were on our 4th large bottle of Asahi dry and he was on his sixth or seventh bourbon. It was great. I think mostly because they thought I'm a Japanese from America who just isn't fluent in native culture. It's weird because I'm not really Japanese, but I didn't ruin the fun by telling them that. Also there was a group of 5 or 6 Chinese (mostly girls) who stayed a while, but we hardly talked to them before they left. It was great. What a great time so far tonight.

Honestly we should plan a trip together, artunee. I don't have any friends (mostly white Americans) who want to go to Japan and respect and enjoy the culture, so I have to go solo, which is less fun unless I find some nice Japanese to hang out with, like tonight.
