The best is get your hands on them and try them out.
That's the best to decide which u prefer.

Maple.

+1 on tsunvun86's advice. Let your hands be the judge of what you think feels right to you. I personally prefer the look and feel of a rosewood fretboard over one that's maple. Maple fretboards feel rather stiff and slippery when I play on them, but that's just me. I also find that they tend to add a brightness to the guitar's sound which I'm not a fan of. But in any case, let your hands and ears determine which model is best for you. Don't be fooled by the word "Deluxe" as it does not necessarily mean that the guitar is "better", it simply offers a different selection of features.

By the way, good call on the Tele - you're already on the right track by choosing that model over a strat *flame suit on* :shock

I like the look of maple fingerboard on teles and strats... that's just me though.
Yeah, maple fingerboards usually make your guitar sound slightly brighter than rosewood fingerboards. Hm, according to my guitar friend, teles are heavier than strats...

heavy bodied guitars can usually be compensated for by having a LARGE strap to hold the guitar. A strap that is more than 2" in width would alleviate some of the weight issues of heavier guitars. However if you do have a bad back, you may want to consider a lighter guitar. Considering how your budget seems to be in the $800-1000 range, there's a huge selection of guitars that you can choose from. However if you're set on a Tele body style, consider looking around for a Thinline Tele. It's semi-hollow, as it has a single f-hole, and thus it will be MUCH lighter than a standard Tele.

I love the feel of maple fretboard :good
but yeah, try them out to know wat suits u best...

teles are heavier but not exactly heavy heavy. how come no one likes rosewood? for me its easier to play cuz there's less grip and you can go faster.

tsunvun86 - January 18, 2008 08:08 PM (GMT)
I second zenaku!! Rosewood ftw~
Everytime I try maple my fingers get stuck in between solos. Not a fan :(

nataliejwong - January 18, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
I like the playability of a rosewood fingerboard over maple... but speaking on aesthetics alone... a maple fingerboard just looks better on Fenders.

Yep, teles are no where as heavy as let's say... a Les Paul guitar. If you're a small person, it's a heck lot of weight for you to stand up and play one...

:shock

Someone broke into my house while my family and I were overseas.. =((
the weird thing is that whoever broke into my house, they only stole guitars..
they took two of mine and an amp, and took four of my brother's guitars...
and nothing else that i know of was stolen =S..

But the good thing is that the insurance company will cover for the lost guitars =D

I asked myself this question about the Strat, which one I'll get. I decided that for me I'd prefer the American Standard rather than the Deluxe since the Deluxe isn't the pure original plain guitar.

Sure it has a different set of pickups but its got the extra finishings which aren't essential for me. I just like the normal plain guitar and I'd get the special ones later on. Thats just for me. Both are a fine choice XD

Oooh also maple definitely maple for the fretboard, maple is the traditional Tele fretboard and it gives you more of that sharp twangy sound which Tele's are known for.

That's good news. This time you can invest in a nice security safe box to protect your new guitars.
