Title: Question about it's happy line lyrics
love4yui - December 29, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
Dare no tame ni ikite iru no?
Saenai hibi wo sugoshite
Yowasa mo itami mo dono kurai kanjiteru no?
Yowasa mo itami mo dore kurai kanjiteru no?
the lyrics says dono kurai, but in taiyou no uta she sings like dore kurai. what's the difference between dono and dore?
Tarinai kinou ni obore
Yume ni kaita kyou
soro wa nakutemo yeah yeah
soro e nakutemo yeah yeah
Again what's the difference between wa and e?
Yoake mae no mabataku hoshi wa
Kiete itta no? Asu e itta no?
Tomorrow never knows
It's happy line
Nani wo shinjite ikeba ii?
Mienai hibi wo sugoshite
Donna yoru wo mitemo mou kurai kao shinaide
Daremo ga shiawase wo yobu egao
Miete iru no?
Warawa nakutemo yeah yeah
Warae nakutemo yeah yeah
Here also wa and e... so confusing!!
Asu e no omoi wo mune ni
Akai me wo mite
Waratte mita no
Tomorrow never knows
It's happy line
not so important... just curious to know what's the difference...

and here is the translation, if anyone wants it!!
Who are you living for?
As you spend these gloomy days
How much weakness and pain do you feel?
Even if you’re lost in an unsatisfying past
And today doesn’t live up to the day you pictured in your dreams, yeah yeah
The stars that shine before dawn
Have they gone? Have they gone to tomorrow?
Tomorrow never knows
It's happy line
What should I believe?
As I spend these days I can’t see
No matter what night you’re seeing, don’t look so down anymore
Everyone has a smile they call happiness
Can you see it? Even if you don’t smile, yeah yeah
With my feelings for tomorrow in my heart
I tried to see it through rose-tinted glasses
And smile
Tomorrow never knows
It's happy line
Even if you’re lost in an unsatisfying past
And today doesn’t live up to the day you pictured in your dreams, yeah yeah
The stars that shine before dawn
Have they gone? Have they gone to tomorrow?
Tomorrow never knows
It's happy line

Well.. For the case of dono and dore, these two can be used interchangeably in this context which expresses an extent to which etc etc.
The difference between the pairs sorowanakute, soroenakute & warawanakute, waraenakute is basically a difference in the form.
Because the word waraenakute are in the potential form, it indicates a possibility of sth. In this case, the meaning would be being unable to smile.
For the word soroenakute, as vivi has helped to point out, is a transitive verb. This indicates that the action is brought about by the speaker. However, when translated into english, the resulted meaning would be "not complete" whether the word is soroenakute or sorowanakute.
Warawanakute is simply a negative form, without indication of whether sth is possible or not. The respective meanings would then be "not smiling".
This sounds confusing isnt it? :sry

As you said, waraenakute is in the potential form, but soroenakute is not.
Sorou = intransitive verb
Soroeru = transitive verb
This is the difference between Sorowanakute and Soroenakute.

Oh yeah it totally slipped my mind about intransitive and transitive verbs! Should have been more careful. m(_ _)m Thanks! I should edit my post to make it not misleading.

Ah Mel ah, how long you've been 'secretly' learning Japanese ah? Seems very the advance liao leh. In university?
If I were you, I would completely forgotten about that transitive/intransitive part too LOL.
Normally I memorise all the words but nowadays very lazy *swt*, vivi, do you have any tips on this??
Dear YUI is playing on words......
Just sneaking in for no apparent reason =x

It seems I have officially become ah mel already. Lol.. I haven been 'secretly' learning it. Hmm, this is the 4th year since I started learning. I do take japanese lang modules in university (now yr 1) and I also attend lessons outside school. It's madness. @@ hahaha.. I ain't advanced at all, still got lots to go~

Ooo...so hard working. Yesterday I was listening to Korean and Thai language learning podcasts, it was madness XD
I have forgotten 80% of the words I have listened....*swt*
Only me can call you Ah Mel, lol. Which major are you taking in university? (Off topic).
uchihamel - January 27, 2008 05:47 AM (GMT)
I wanna try learning korean but I dun wanna learn how to write! :YUIFace I'm currently still in exposure stage, majoring maybe in sociology or linguistics. Can't make up my mind.
atheon - January 27, 2008 07:56 AM (GMT)
[off topic] Linguistics?! Me linguistics one wo. Then you wanna major in Japanese (or other languages)??
Sociology, under Arts......I don't know about your school but in my school, east asian studies and linguistics both offer Japanese, however when I was in first year, I studied 16 hours of Japanese per week where as the ones in East Asian studies studied only 6 hours per week. But then you wanna take sociology lol.
Linguistics also have sociolinguistics =P
Yea it is better to explore around first. To me, linguistics consider as something completely new, can be really scientific, since it is a science study of language. Ask your seniors, treat them like people from royal family and you'll get tons of useful information =D

Linguistics is super interesting! But yours is specific as in japanese linguistics? I also know that there's sociolinguistics hahah. In fact I failed to obtain the module social variation in english this semester. Here like cannot major in a certain language de. It's like if you major japanese studies then japanese lang is a required modular component.
16 hrs?! Kitsui yo. Currently 9 hrs is already quite @@ for me. Seeing my sensei almost every day of the week. Well, for now my inclination is slightly towards linguistics, unless socio changes my mind. haha..
P.S. This is evolving into a chit-chat thread and a mod is involved. =P
