Title: Gattaca (1997)
Description: Born inferior but proven superior

JustAnotherYUILover - December 9, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
Plot(taken from imdb, revised by me):

In this time of society. There is a way for babies to be enhanced and perfected before birth. Diseases, sicknesses, and death expectancies for the baby are already available before hand. The guardian of a baby is given the choice of what they want their baby to be like. They can rule out anything from common sicknesses to fatal diseases. Vincent, is the last of the babies that are "natural" born into this genetically enhanced world. He has a congenital heart condition and is expected to die at the age of 30. Vincent has always wanted to join the aerospace company, Gattaca and go into space but with a condition like his, he will never be able to. This society in Vincent's time, discriminates through genes; not gender, race, or religion. With just a blood test or anything of the person's possesion, they can ring up your profile in an instant. "You can lie on your resume, but the real resume is in you." Vincent is given an oppurtunity to become a "valid" or genetically enhanced person. The way he does it is through the help from an athletic valid named Jerome Morrow. Jerome is crippled and can no longer do the things he could in the past. Vincent is given gene samples or all kinds to substitute them with his and become the valid he has always wanted to be, but through the identity of Jerome Morrow. Everyday Vincent has to rid himself of any extra skin, extra hair, and etc. before he can resume his role in Gattaca. He is provided samples of Jerome's hair, blood, urine, and etc. to advance. But throughout the movie, Vincent is able to do the impossible. He has proven himself in everyway, just as good as any valid out there. Let the story of Vincent Anton compel you. If you want something really badly, you will try to get it no matter what. Even if you perish. . .

"There is no gene for fate after all." - Doctor in beginning of movie. This becomes the theme of the movie. "There is no gene for the human spirit."

This is a great movie and I just finished it. If this summary makes you want to watch it, go do it! Do you believe in superior born people? Do you believe that everyone is created equal?
