Title: Taiyou no Uta after effects
Description: How does it make you feel and why?
JustAnotherYUILover - December 6, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
Okay so I noticed a thread about feelings you get from YUI's songs and basically there is nothing going on in there. Everyone is bending over and worshipping YUI's songs just for the fact that YUI sings them. It makes me feel somewhat different.

If I'm the only odd eight ball in this whole forum who can speak up against these lies, then let it be. If I am speaking out of my ass so be it. I've come to create a topic here so I can express myself truthfully without jumping on the bandwagon and liking every damn thing just because YUI is part of it. I want to isolate myself from every YUI fan who is fan crazy about everything YUI is about and who immediately likes something just because YUI is part of it. I don't dislike YUI but I have grown to dislike the fact that some of us are passing biased judgement. I for one do not tolerate immediate judgement especially when it's biased towards someone or something. This is not just about that one thread anymore. It's like when I first joined this forum, people were actually able to give positive and negative opinions without being judged. This forum has grown to be full of fakers and I can't stand it anymore. It's no different that lying to ourselves. Note: Do ban me if I'm being too offensive.
After watching "Taiyou no Uta", people have said that they become depressed. I want to ask why this happens. Is there something in the movie that stimulates this feeling? Is it just because of the ending? Even I get depressed by watching Taiyou no Uta but it's not the only movie that does it to me. (For example: The movie Ghost World made me feel like complete crap after watching it.) I use to think that it was because of YUI's being in it but just saying that would be so untruthful to myself.
For me I think I've cornered my emotions to the point where I can observe and understand why I feel depressed after watching Taiyou no Uta. Here's my conclusion:
The whole plot of the movie about Kaoru being sick and stuff doesn't have a single influence on my emotions. Believe it or not, the plot doesn't mean a thing to me. Kaoru's death? Not even close. It's just this one thing. The feeling of wanting simplicity.
Read this and you will understand:
Kaoru is free to do whatever she pleases because she is sick and therefore there are no expectations of her. She is pressure free. She can go on life without aiming for anything and she will still be free of judgement. No one passes judgement onto her because she is excused.
Her friend with the glasses skips school a lot. She chooses not to go to school. At one point she commented about school and said "there is no point going there." Although having a rather minor role, she has the biggest influence on me. We know nothing more about her. Knowing anymore would just be a waste of film. What we don't know won't hurt us.
Kouji's school life is at a down slope. He is the student with the low grades. That doesn't say much about him. Is he a bad person? Is he a slacker? Who am I to judge anyone anyway? We only get to see Kouji's life when he is either enjoying himself or doing stuff he likes(such as surfing). I know nothing more and that already makes me feel content.
Only in reality, do I realize that people like them, do indeed have their hardships and struggles. But just feeling their freedom awakens me from my reality and allows me to see how low I am living.
It is like puppeteering to me; living someone else's life. We do it all the time. Through music, through literature, anything(you name it). Each time I finish watching Taiyou no Uta, I realize that everything in there is so beautiful and simple. Everyone's lives are complete and desire-free. We don't know each individual's ending and we don't know what their future holds as well. We don't need to worry about that. Let me live in Kaoru for two hours. Let me live in Kouji for two hours. That is all I ask for. But in the end, it is impossible. This is what tears me up. Freedom like that will never be available in modern society. That is why my heart weeps. That is why there are tear drops on my pillow when I sleep at night. That is why I am depressed. That is why I've grown to be me.
Okay after this very offensive post, I'm sure none of you will want to do this but... What is it in Taiyou no Uta that makes you depressed as an individual?
milkyway - December 6, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
lol the post is a bit long il read it tomorow XD its too late now... but as for why it makes me depressed :
i tink its jus a mental problem i hav..im a bit too sensitive?
i get depressed if i get to knw the characters well and it ends, i get depressed after EVERY SINGLE anime series i watch in a row... so stuf like naruo or bleach which i watch once a week doesn make me feel depressed at all, i tink its coz i fall in luv wit da characters ? XD no idea actually
point is i get sad and depressed for few days after any anime series even if its not a sad ending >.< (if i watch in a row) wit movies its much less depressing tayo no uta left me depressed for about 3 days...(and i have no idea why! XD) gomenasai! i really dunno wtf is wrong wit me! hehe

well i didnt actually get depressed it was like a bitter sweet ending.
JustAnotherYUILover you have a point about people liking things just becuase YUI is in it. I probably was like that until goodbye days. But honestly would you say you would have watched the movie if YUI wasn't in it.
I for one wouldnt have watched it and if YUI wasn't in it i probably think I would rate it lower. I think the best actor is the dad. YUI's acting wasn't the best or most challenging. He did everything right got a major part and i found him quite funny trying to hold his rage.
I found the movie to be ok but particularly touching or moving, however YUI's utter cuteness in it can attract manyy.

I mentioned before about how some of the people here are witch-hunters.
Scary stuff...

Human judgement will always be bias and normative. I don't believe that the forum is full of fakers but there has definitely been more crazed fandom than before. However, this doesn't mean that there aren't both sides to things like how ppl feel about YUI songs. People like certain songs, dislike certain songs, like certain parts and dislike others. Fan or not. But for a thread like the "feelings of yui's songs," it's unlikely that anyone would post comments of negativity just because that's not what the thread's about. That being said, I do get your point. A lot of people have forgotten that we know YUI through her songs and not the songs through her. But fans will always be like that no matter the artist and will eventually grow out of it. To be exact, it's part of psychosocial development where those who are under 17 constantly try to find identity and aims. (part of an exam im taking next week) Being a fan helps ppl relate to individual who have a higher or clearer aim than them. Anyways, my point is that I don't think ppl are lying to themselves, but music does influence ppl in different ways. Some more than others.
Relating to Taiyou no Uta, I think ppl grow on the characters like in every good movie. The whole goodbye days ending reinforced it. Not the saddest film I've seen in the same structure but probably was most affected by the music in it and the whole unique routine of life.
Tweety - December 7, 2007 11:03 AM (GMT)
well... you're right. some people do just buy useless stuff just because of their idol... and many people like some singers just because their image, and not really vecause their voice ot their songs. i don't like this kind of attitude also.
However, i don't think this forum full of "fakers" maybe just fans that lover little bit too much, but eventually, it'll stop.
the movie doesn't make me depressed at all, just a little sad maybe, but not in a depressing way.
it's a very beautiful story...
but i don't think i would watch it if YUI wasn't in there, i'm just not a very movie type... and the fact that YUI's in in the movie just made me feel intersted.
that's all. :)

actually true i wouldn have watched it if yui wasn in it, but im glad she was coz it was a great movie taking yui aside! if i knew it was this great i wouldve watched it even if yui wasn in it.
i was suprised wit yui's acting thought it was weird in beggnin but not bad @ all i jus think of it as amane personality to be weird like that
i also totally agree and thought that the dad was the best actor in the movie, i thought that through out the whole movie!
JustAnotherYUILover - December 8, 2007 04:33 AM (GMT)
@zenaku: Thanks for that. I owe everyone an apology.
Ah I guess I went a little overboard. If you guys are sharp, you can all tell that this is no longer just about YUI. Sorry guys and continue doing whatever it is that you've been doing. I shouldn't have any right in intruding your personal thoughts and feelings. Live like you guys would want to. I speak insane nonsense.
KaiserKawaii - December 8, 2007 07:03 AM (GMT)
i didn't feel depressed after watching the movie... i felt sad though... sad is different from depressed.... for me, being depressed is one level higher and it involves low self-esteem...
i felt sad because the characters grew on me because they were presented nicely and everyone had certain lovely personality... and i would say that it was the ending scene where good-bye days was played that made me real sad because by just reading the translation and relating it to the movie makes you wanna kill the writer of the story... (joke! just a little)...
if you add the fact that YUI and Tsukamoto looked good together and they didn't end up together makes it sadder... :hee
Fugitivo - December 10, 2007 04:22 PM (GMT)
It's normal to feel sad after watching the movie... Saying "depressed" is a way of exagerating it.
And of course, the fact that we all love YUI and her music is one reason why we love this film. It's normal and logical ^^
Razgriz - December 11, 2007 02:39 AM (GMT)
I can't say that the movie depressed me, the follow-through of the movie itself wasn't powerful enough to make me feel that way. I probably watched it only because Yui was in it and I wanted to see her act, I could hardly call that in itself a crime though.
As for forum bias', everyone is going to have bias on something. I'm sure you have a bias to believe that living a philosophical life would be something as ideal because you took a highschool philosophy class of the sort. Or maybe you don't, since I don't exactly know you, but it's some sort of example.
This is a fan forum, and I don't believe critical analysis is really frowned upon, I'd just watch the language you use to draw your point, because if you go about doing it in hostile nature, you're going to get the same in return.
You might have noticed that the forum also consists of a majority of younger audiences, so I wouldn't go far into judging them so harshly. I don't think most posts are rounded off so they express in-depth thoughts to justify their view. If you ask for them, you will perhaps receive and be satisfied. If they can't explain why they like something other than the fact that it belongs to Yui, then I personally wouldn't find it a big problem, maybe feel that it is slightly shallow, but other than that, I don't see a problem.
If we all had to live life with justification in everything that we do to satisfy the audience, then I'd hardly call that fulfilling. Enjoying something just for the sake of the enjoyment it produces isn't something I'd call bad.
I can see where you're coming from, since I do share some of the same logic. Overtime though, you can't expect everyone to follow through a behavior that you'd deem ideal. So in my opinion, tolerance is being able to accept this, and to preach your view as an option, and not something everyone should adapt to as a need.
Heh, beside, looking for objectivity in any fan forum seems a bit arbitrary for the most part lol.

@Everyone: I guess my apology wasn't sincere enough. I'm sorry once again.
I'm just way too messed up for this society okay? I'm currently going to a psychiatrist/behavior specialist and soon a brain specialist. I hope it works out because I really don't want to resort to plan B. If I need to, I want to just let you guys know: I've always thought of this forum as my little escape into heaven. Everyday when I got home from school, I would've been the most satisfied human being on earth. No one could take that away from me. I couldn't ask for more. Content and satisfied that's the way I'll choose to die. No worries, no regrets, just one last request. Shed no tears for thou shalt die happy.

Woah woah woah, that's a scary post there. Don't do anything drastic eh?, and there is no need to say sorry you know, you're just expressing your view. That, and no one asked for or expected an apology I don't think.

@JustAnotherYUILover: SMILE! JESUS LOVES YOU!!!! and so do we! :loveblink
personally, i first watched taiyou no uta because i had just started listening to YUI and did not know much about her, so i was just kinda curious about seeing her in a movie. but i must say that it was definitely not her acting ability that made me a YUI fan. in fact, if taiyou no uta didnt have all the beautiful music (YUI's and other) i really dont think i would have liked the movie much at all. it was really that goodbye days montage at the end that pulled it all together.
yeah, it was sad (i wouldnt say "depressing" either) when kaoru died, but i mean, she had a terminal disease so you knew it was coming. and i didnt cry nearly as much as i did when watching the drama version, i think, because they didnt actually show her dying like in the drama.
anyway, when i go back and watch the movie these days, i do sit there and say, "oh YUI is so cute in this!" but that is still not the only reason i like the movie. that is just the YUI-fan portion of my point of view coming out...if that makes any sense, lol. :sry
*simply_kawaii* - December 17, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
agreed @ what hibiku-chan said..cheer up JustAnotherYUILover.. :clap
the ending part of the movie where goodbye days is played is the most touching and the saddest part as well..you know, when Kouji in his swimsuit and he ran towards the waves and the view from Kaoru's room of outside made me cry even more..just typing these words remind me of the movie, making me cry again..
The movie has a touching storyline and it was more inspiring because of the YUI-ness in it.. :suki
QUINCY - December 29, 2007 08:16 AM (GMT)
At least I prefer the movie to the I-know-why-it-has-low-ratings dorama =P Unlike YUI's Kaoru, Erika's doesn't seem an artist AT ALL =O The storyline in the dorama is way too long so it reduces the movie's initial emotion :shock

EDIT :
http://yui-lover.com/index.php?showforum=6Why does brad have to assert that, I quote, he's "Not making fun of YUI i promise."
My feeble mind can only come to a conclusion that people can get bashed in these forums if they were to disagree with the majority of people.
E.g. YUI can't sing in English to save her life.
There I said it. Now let the flaming rain down on me.

But yes.
Once again, the movie has made me cry.
Sad? yes.
Depressed? no.
kinda exaggerating it if you say it made you "depressed" imo.

^^ We tend not to point out YUI's flaws. That doesn't mean that some of us are totally ignorant about it haha.
Besides, this is a fan forum. We worship our goddess here, and diss her in some other forums/places. Hypocrite? Maybe.
Too much negative energy is bad for health. We need some of it to spice up our life though.
Back to Taiyou no Uta. Sweet movie.

there's always a possibility of a hypocrite somewhere in forums like ones such as this.
even though we're all here to worship her,
you can't really deny that she has flaws.
isn't that what a true fan is though?
accepting of her even with her flaws?
and i completely understand what you mean with the whole negative energy thing, but if you think about it, sometimes too much of it coming can't be helped you know?
and yes, sweet movie. lol

i watched taiyou no uta last night with my friend who had never seen it. she cried at the end, too, but she loved it! it's just that kinda movie, ya know...*sigh* ^_^ and for me, it was just so nice to watch it again. a sweet movie indeed! :good

When i first heard of YUI's movie, Taiyou no Uta, i hurriedly searched it in the net, and, luckily i found it on crunchyroll.com, as i found it, i immediately watched it hehe. Although the movie was very simple, the location they were in, were very beautiful, and the actors and actresses they chose fit their own roles perfectly, also, for YUI's character of course. My tears almost fell when she died, i thought she was gonna be cured in the end of the movie lol, but, indeed she left good, cute memories to Koji and her family. And after the movie, I felt somewhat thankful that i've seen the movie itself, atleast i've realized that YUI played her role perfectly, as I can see that she totally can relate herself to her character.
gotchi - January 4, 2008 10:47 PM (GMT)
Hmm....i just kinda skimmed through everyone's posts.....
well I knew YUI was in this movie and I wasn't a huge fan of YUI's back then as I am today.... so I wasn't really expecting much from this piece. I've watched a couple of movies/dramas that have this simple 'pure love' and illness appearance type of storyline and Taiyou no uta would be one of them. To be honest, the movie wasn't that great but I was surprised with YUI's performance as well..she was believable and I was still touched by this film.
I wouldn't say this movie left me feeling depressed. I can see your point about the simplicity of this setting or world these characters are in but maybe they're trying to say that we make our lives too complicated at times? maybe not?!
anyway after watching it...i felt my spirits were a bit uplifted..i knew Kaoru's fate so i wasn't saddened or upset but i was watching for what actions Kaoru would take before time runs out on her.....it reminded me that time waits for no one and you should live your life to the fullest type of thing...but yea reality isn't the same in this fictitious story world.....
movies/stories/music are ways of escaping away from reality but we need them...These all tell stories and convey human thoughts/ideals/feelings and when people watch/hear/read them ...it makes humans feel connected and we can relate ....i think we all know the world isn't as "desire-free" nor does it have that so-called "freedom" that exists in the movie like Taiyou no uta...but we're not facing this world alone...and these 'stories' kinda keep us connected as humans this way...
k that's just my two cents....

At first, I didn't know anything about YUI. I was searching for movies and dramas when i found this "taiyou no uta" and I find the plot interesting because of the unique sickness of the main character. The one thing that made me amazed was her voice. :suki then after watching the whole movie.. i searched about YUI and it was the first time for me to be interested in Japanese Music ( seriously.. ) :suki
The movie was sad and i'm really wondering if someone has that sickness. Its so cruel :shock .. And btw, the movie was so simple. But anyone can be touched by it. Im really glad that i watched this movie. :suki

I didn't know that YUI could make cute faces :sry I thought all of her expressions were just all cold.
I've never heard of YUI talking before. her voice was cute when she was talking!!
after I watch the movie, it just made me to love YUI more. I'm now addicted to all of her songs. since I watched the movie, I downloaded all her songs and listened to them almost everyday.
well, I have 2 friends who watched this movie too, and they began to listen to YUI songs after that :suki
