Translation

YUI - TOKYO
Translation by Fantasiimaker

The day has come for me to leave this room I've been used to living in
I'm still bewildered at this new journey

Inside the bus that's heading toward the station
I emailed my friend

I tried to call on the morning platform
But somehow, I felt that it was different

I came carrying an old guitar
I've placed out all of the pictures

I let something go and take something
I wonder if it's that kind of repetition?

This show of courage continues even in my dreams
If I became cowardly, I would be cut off there

Inside the train that began to go
Just a little bit, I was moved to tears

This town that continues outside the window
I wished that it wouldn't change

The person who gave me the old guitar
had said that Tokyo is scary

I've already stopped searching for an answer
It's fine being full of mistakes

The red evening glow was cut off at the building
even if I endure the tears

Each journey that comes with the next morning
has its doubtful places, right?

I can't simply choose the right thing
At least I understand that

This is from our very own Anna! ^_^

QUOTE
At the beginning of the PV, when she's talking on the phone.. I believe she's talking to a guy. I have a very rough translation of what she says:

Ima na to ta?
You're a different person now?

Ima kui shi darou?
Now you regret your pride, I suppose?

Ima, kara ta koto
Now from other experiences

Jaa, ittekimasu
Well, I'm off

Jaa nee
See you later

So the guy must be apologizing for the way he acted before. And he wanted to tell her before she left to go to Tokyo.  It's so sad..

And at the end of the PV, she says:

Watashi wa koko de uta hajimeru...YUI [TOKYO]
I, myself, am the individual to start the song... YUI [TOKYO]
or
I am the individual who starts the song... YUI [TOKYO]

Again, these are very rough translations cause I'm not that advanced in Japanese yet

Thank you very much for posting these up Pongo! ^_^

So I was not far off in my idea of what TOKYO was about....

Rmr, we can always post up more than one Translation, b/c they can be diff! ;)

XMarksTheSpot! - December 29, 2005 02:08 AM (GMT)
I'm relieved Yui doesn't cry for me :P

But I'm curious about what she said on the phone. Maybe it was like, "I'm sorry Pongo. We can no longer have a relationship since u're so into Younha now"

j/k

AditZ - December 29, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
Cool stuff, Pongo! I'm looking for this one. Thanx for sharing ;)

And Pongo, can you help us promote this forum...?

XMarksTheSpot! - December 29, 2005 05:05 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, sure I'll try to do what I can to promote this cozy place ^^

*Shine! - December 29, 2005 05:44 AM (GMT)

Is this single out for DLing already? o.O

XMarksTheSpot! - December 29, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
LoL

it's not even on sale yet, how could it's already available for doenloading

AditZ - December 29, 2005 11:03 AM (GMT)
I think if its even released yet, but somehow the file could be spread mysteriously. I dunno why. The same things happen with BoA mp3. I always get the files before they're being released.

Ty_Sylicus - December 29, 2005 08:37 PM (GMT)
These files are PV rips?

AditZ - December 29, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
I dunno where it comes from. Its still a mystery for me too.....

XMarksTheSpot! - December 30, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
There's leak on Sony?

AditZ - December 30, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
There's a possibility too. Or maybe from Avex or SM itself?

EndtoInfinity930 - December 30, 2005 06:45 PM (GMT)

Ty_Sylicus - December 31, 2005 07:43 AM (GMT)

Again, these are very rough translations cause I'm not that advanced in Japanese yet

almost got it =P

a better translation would be "This is where I start the song"

Gin - January 27, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)
I believe, but I'm not quite sure, that she says 「私はここで歌い始める」, 'Watashi wa koko de utaihajimeru.'

A literal translation would be 'I began to sing here [Tokyo],' but a *better* translation would probably be 'This [Tokyo] is where I first started singing.' Since the song is recalling YUI's move from Fukoka to Tokyo to start her music career, it would make more sense. But I don't know. The last part is hard to transliterate.

AditZ - January 27, 2006 05:02 PM (GMT)
I can see Gin is a native Japanesse speaker. It would be great to hear more of your Japanesse, Gin. :)

Gin - January 27, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
*sigh* I only wish I was a native Japanese speaker. I started learning Japanese after I went to Japan in April 2004. I've been studying it diligently ever since, so I'm moderately proficient. :) My real strength is in reading and writing Japanese, since I probably know between 400-600 characters fully, and am learning more.

But I'm not a native Japanese speaker. :(

Gin - January 29, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
I come bearing translations of Tokyo and Help. ^_^

Again, these are my own work, I can't guarantee they're accurate, and they are not literal. I try to convey the sense and feeling of the words accurately. Still, enjoy.

Since Tokyo has already been translated, I'll start off with Help:

What should I do? Nee, Kami-sama?*
You haven't changed: you never vanish mysteriously.

If this is a test, I'll endure it,
But Fate is up to You.

I'm not some Lucky Girl.
I want to go on with a light step.

My feelings just keep building,
I want you to find me, ah, ah, onegai!**

Oh Baby Baby, Oh Baby Baby
I'm dreaming, uh huh, 'cuz I'm a kid.
Baby Baby, Only my yearning for you gets stronger, oh yeah,
Just gimme a chance!
I believe My God, oh oh oh!
I believe myself, oh oh oh! Yeah!
Kami-sama, Help!

I'll do my best! What's left I can't really help.
I'll put my hands together to pray.

You never stop smiling,
so please find me, ah, ah, onegai!

Oh Baby Baby, Oh Baby Baby
I love you. And only you.
Baby, Baby, Please don't be mean to me,
Oh Yeah,
Just gimme a chance!
I believe My God, oh oh oh!
I believe myself, oh oh oh! Yeah!
Kami-sama, Help!

*I didn't translate Kami-sama because it's not a direct equivalent to 'God.' Plus, it sounds better. ;P

**I didn't translate onegai since onegai has a lot more emotion than just 'please' in English. And again, it sounds better. ;)

Next up, Tokyo:

Today I have to leave this old room of mine.
This new journey I'm starting still confuses me a bit.

On the bus ride to the train station,
I text-messaged my friends.

I tried to call someone on that morning platform.
But something felt different about it all.
All I brought with me was an old guitar,
and it had all my pictures inside.

I take something and I get something,
I ponder that cycle in my heart.

I always try to hide my fears in my dreams.
When I start to quail, I stop dead in my tracks.

I got on the train and it rushed away.
That made me cry a little bit.

Life in my town continued on outside my window.
I prayed that it wouldn't ever change.
The man who gave me my old guitar
Told me Tokyo is quite a scary place.

I've stopped looking for all the answers.
It's okay to have some flaws.

Those grey skyscrapers blocked the setting sun.
Even if I endure these tears today,
Won't tomorrow's cold morning just bring more doubt?

I can't choose the right thing,
At least I know that much.

AditZ - January 29, 2006 04:47 AM (GMT)
Ah! Nice job! I like HELP very much, so this translation help me a lot to understand the song. :)

Gin - January 30, 2006 02:45 PM (GMT)
All righty, I made some minor revisions to both translations. I hope you like them. ^_^

XMarksTheSpot! - January 30, 2006 05:36 PM (GMT)
Good Job Gin!

Nice to know that 'Kami-sama' is not direct equivalent to 'God'

Rachael - February 4, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
Help's english translation!

"I've already stopped searching for all the answers.
