Title: Philosophically connected films
Description: Any recommendations?

JustAnotherYUILover - November 23, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
Hey there. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for movies dealing with the big questions in Philosophy:

Such as:
Reality
Truth
Identity
Greed
Life
Power

I already have Fight Club and The Seventh Seal in mind but I want some more recommendations.

I found this pretty informative website:http://www.philfilms.utm.edu/2/filmlist.htm so if I don't get any recommendations, I guess I'll just have to go through the whole list. :good

off the top of my mind matrix deals with reality and truths. Dead man walking deals with life and religion and animal farm deals with power and identity.

Thanks zenaku.

I watched Fight Club yesterday and boy was it the best damn thing I've ever watched. Its rated R content is like the only way to speak out the truth to modern day society while keeping them on the subject of life. I really recommend this movie.

The quote, "the things you own end up owning you." remains the theme for the whole movie." You can see why this film is related to Diogenese the Cynic after you watch it.

This film is rated R for nudity, sexual content, mild language, and violence. I guess you can say that it's also rated R because it makes you suicidal and despressed.

Hmmm well i haven't watched Fight Club before but im curious.... what exactly does 'the things you own end up owning you' mean =/
lol.. does that relate to everything you own or..what, im confused.

In my own words:
The things you own as in everything we consume our time doing and using. Such as materialistic things that are of external characteristic. Those things become so attached to us that we are now part of it. Once removed, we will be enraged, saddened, unhappy, and etc. The junk we have are the crap we don't need. Our identities as whatever we do in our call of duty in life is nothing but a lie. Advertisements on television, newspapers, magazines, and etc. try to present images of impossibility. For example: Calvin Klein. Do you think by using Calvin Klein products you will fit the description of a "man"? "The things you own end up owning you." I can go on forever but I won't. Just watch the movie and you'll start to grasp things at your own level.

I don't want to spoil the movie for you because it is just that damn good. You can dl the torrent atmininova After watching this movie you'll be asking yourself why didn't you watch it earlier.

If this movie some how makes you more self aware and concious about life and society to the point where you are very interested, please feel free to check out my blog which is located under my signature.

I watched Memento like two days ago. That was a great movie as well. It deals with self identity. It is so confusing at first because the scenes are all over the place. One minute you're at the end of the movie, another you're in the middle, and so on. I really liked this movie and I would recommend it as well. I'm currently watching Ghost World but it's not that great. I find it kind of dull in a way. I think I'll stop asking for recommendations now because I'm currently using the list I found on the web and it's working out pretty well.
