Hello the Yui's !!

I just wanted to share my impressions about the movie "Once". I just came back from my japanese teaching, followed by a cinema session. The movie is brilliant. A very cool piece of moment. The main charecter is played by Glen Hansard, great singer, talented composer and now, pretty good actor. :) Glen Hansard is the main singer of the irish band The frames. I didn't know about that band, but, maybe I will give it a try, because Hansard's compositions for the movie were good. So... if you have the occosaion, I recommend you that movie, definitively a good one. :good

The songs are irish style ballads/folk/pop-rock. If you know bout Damien Rice... you know what I talk about...

The critics (unofficial critics...) :

Samart Rolling Star magazine : "One of the best movie about music, along with Taiyô no uta.

The Samart Times : "Very good movie. Glen Hansard is a great composer, along with Roxy36. We all like Sakurairo in the redaction here..."

Ps : I definitively like the irish accent. I think it's cute...

I've heard of this movie. The Irish guy that woos a girl with his guitar (or something). I wanted to watch this movie after I saw the trailer.

The Samart Times???? Haha.

Nice. Another guitar movie! Is this movie showing in Canada?

An Irish guy who seduce a girl with a guitar ? It's not true. I mean, it is not an american movie. Sorry, I don't want to write spoilers... but you will not see a single kiss or more in this movie. Still a very good movie. If you see the movie, you will understand. Sorry, I don't know if you can see it in Canada. I guess yes.

Well wooing doesn't necessarily mean seducing. Maybe I'll watch the Trailer again.

From cinemaclock.com:

"On the streets of Dublin a busker and an immigrant fall in love over an eventful week, as they write, rehearse and record a number of songs."

It looks like an interesting movie. I shall watch the trailer now too. Haha. The movie is under Fox Searchlight Pictures, like Garden State. :P

Just purchased the movie after renting it, found it very touching, and I'm not the kinda person that likes these kinda movies.

It's a different kind of love. They never kiss nor do they do anything intimate. They just love music and play together. The love is implied.

I was so smitten with it that I even bought the soundtrack. Might not be for everyone, but I think it's just delightful.

I've "got" this movie already, but I still haven't watch it. Maybe I'll make it into another movie day for our next Toronto YL Outing.

Anyways, not sure if any of you follow the Academy Awards couple nights ago. But it was quite exciting to see that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova win an Oscar for the Best Song for "Falling Slowly" from the movie Once. It is especially good since a song from an independent film beat out 3 musical songs from mainstream movie, Enchanted. They also performed the song live before the winner was announced.

Glen was real emotional when he went up on stage to say his thanks. And it was pretty funny that they cut off Marketa's speech when they start playing the "hurry-up" music before Marketa gets a word in. But it was nice for the Oscar production and John Stewart to invite Marketa back out on stage and let her make her inspiring speech after the commercial break.

A real big thumbs up :good and congrats to Glen and Marketa for their achievement.

To celebrate their Oscar win, here is the soundtrack of Once, which includes their award-winning song:

Yaya I knew this movie since last year, when I was searching for the torrent file of "August Rush" :sry Lastly found nothing but "Once", and downloaded it but didn't watch it though. Until occasionally I saw it's "Falling Slowly" music video on Channel V, OMG!! I just felt in love with the soundtrack and hurry rushed to watch the movie. What can I say.. Well guys, go watch it!!

Roxy36 - February 28, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
man, i really need to browse this forum more thoroughly.. :what hehe

anyway, this is definitely one of my most favorites movies.. the story, the content/style, the music.. everything! It's nothing but excellence!

it is definitely a different kind of "love" relationship.. how these two are brought together by their passion for music and song and for that very subject, they create a very close unearthly bond.. don't wanna spoil anything so i'll stop ranting about the story right here.. haha

but i do believe that a lot of peeps can relate to this..

also, i read that glen and marketa had absolutely no training in acting whatsoever prior to making this film.. nonetheless, they pulled it off flawlessly..

and i agree with my buddy samart how some of the music is very reminiscent to Irish artist "Damien Rice"... (also, another great artist)

Peace@

Nice one, Samart. I haven't listen to the Soundtrack yet since I'm waiting to watch the movie first. I'll be sure to listen to that as well when I'm done with the movie.

Glen and Marketa is such a nice couple.

I just watched this movie last Friday and it was great. I love the songs. I really like Glen's voice and the way he sings his songs is so powerful. :good

Apart from Falling slowly, I also like say it to me now and when your mind made up.

Maybe you knew, but in fact, Glen and Damien have been close friends for years already. Damien have been touring with Glen's band (The Frames) and vice versa. (it wasn't that much surprising to me, after hearing Glen singing for the first time in that ONCE movie, because it was my first impression... "Wouahww, very Damien Rice's like singer" !! :) )

OK ! Wanna see ? Here is a picture with Damien and Glen on stage (on a Damien's Tour date) :

it was great though they used the "F" word many times lol..
the songs are great too.. i love "Say It To Me Now", "When Your Mind's Made Up" and "Into The Mystic"..

Just a video with Damien, his actual band : Vyvienne Long on cello, Shane Fitzsimons on the bass, Joel Shearer on guitars & Brendan Buckley on drums. Tomo (Tom Osander, the former drummer) is not playing anymore for damien, but he is Lisa's drummer now on her last album and will be touring with her (I think) + a kid on maracas next to Shane (lol, Shane's kid ?) + his sound engineer serving wine, + Glen Hansard at guitar and Marketa Irglova on piano with Lisa Hannigan on it too.

Cheers darlin'
