Title: Rip-off of YUI's "Good-bye days"?

vivi - October 9, 2007 04:43 PM (GMT)
http://www.yve.jp/index.html

Some Japanese on the internet point out that a new Jpop singer YVE's debut song "Tenshi ga kureta mono ~It's Only Love" sounds just like YUI's "Good-bye days". The single has not released yet and seems like she wrote only its lyrics though.

:damnpc
RIP-OFF! shoot.
but..the person's voice kinda nice, tho. but YUI's nicer! not to mention cuter.. :nah

s0l1dsn8k3 - October 9, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
I remember briefly visited her site, but I didn't listen to any clips of her debut song. Yeah, right now, there's too much similarity in the chorus.

I wonder how the full song sounds like and if they did or did not license YUI's song.

Fugitivo - October 9, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Mmmm... It's a copy, there's no doubt. But her voice is nice ^^. However, YUI's voice is better for this song, she gives it the most beautiful feeling.

JustAnotherYUILover - October 9, 2007 06:49 PM (GMT)
My favorite YUI song . . . How could they do this? Now when I listen to 'Good-bye days', I'll have this song in my head. This YVE artist should've been more original and try to be less obvious. That's sad too . . . Making a first debut but actually ending up using someone else's song especially when it's YUI's. You know how many fans are going to be outraged? That's going to leave a indelible stain on this YVE artist's reputation. Shame on her . . . She should know better. Well at least were not going to be all over the Chinese again now are we guys?

Dlyan - October 9, 2007 07:32 PM (GMT)
Indeed it's very similar to good-bys days by YUI.. :rolleye
her name is similar YVE->YUE->YUI =O

2 letters of difference

br4d137 - October 9, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
:what

she sounds like a YUI/nakashima mika mix...

odd..

how do u pronounce her name?

like... Y-e-vi? or Y-e-ve?

yukio - October 9, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
lol.... wait so she's calling that song her own?... thats retarded debuting a song that sounds like a copy of goodbye days. espcailly with the movie and stuff, everyone probably knows goodbye days...

yupeh - October 10, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
this is insanity! they may claim that it was not copied from YUI since the ending of the chorus (i assume) is quite different... but the hell! the start of the chorus really sounded like YUI's Goodbye Days! how cruel!

and i can't take it because Good-bye Days is one of my ultimate favorite YUI song... waaaaah... even the name has a few "similarities" as they may say....

waaaaah...

kits - October 10, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
=O This is ridiculious!!

Why do they have to copy her songs? And I also seen some of her Pvs being copied too!
Oh this is too much!! :angry

the_chap - October 10, 2007 02:59 AM (GMT)
Well, it's good, in a bad way, that YUI's songs are being copied as it shows that her songs are good and that people are taking notice... Not that they weren't before...

I'm not sure if Leah Dizon has had her songs copied before...

zenaku - October 10, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
ok all the other songs copied were licensed and exactly the same just in another language. this song is variated but clearly a rip off. whoever the composer is, they're being stupid and just screwing her debut up. changing a bit of the chorus doesn't make it a new song.

j.k - October 10, 2007 07:21 AM (GMT)
:shock OMG...it's a totaly rip off....
why...why??.....
i think the whole japan is gonna notice this, since YUI is getting famous in japan and Good-bye days is one of her famous songs, i think this copycat is doomed...
she's better off going back to her home town growing potatoes....

*simply_kawaii* - October 10, 2007 07:34 AM (GMT)
Goodbye days is my most favorite song also..i can't take this..another copycat..!!! :shock

Now when I listen to 'Good-bye days', I'll have this song in my head.

But I won't try to listen to YVE's version bcoz it may cloud my head..like what happened to JustAnotherYUILover.. :rolleye

....

Merry.Go.Round - October 10, 2007 07:35 AM (GMT)
Eh..It does sounds like YUI's Good-bye Days!
Ah...So that's the theme song for the movie Akira,Lead member starring in uh..

LOL that comment seriously made me laugh hahaha

Yea, it does sound like YUI's Good-bye days. Maybe she just copied the chorus part, hoping that not many people will notice. But of course people will know.. it's like YUI's most popular song...

artunee - October 10, 2007 08:39 AM (GMT)
umm.... It's sound very close to Good-bye days...., and they doesn't show the composer name on her website. :rolleye Have to wait until 10/19 which is the official release date of this mini album. YVE also cover Eternal Flame....

Yeah... It's her best selling single ever.

gotchi - October 10, 2007 09:05 AM (GMT)
whoa yea no that sounds too similar...maybe they'll credit the composition to YUI but....i have no idea i'm sure someone has caught onto this?

>ch|yo< - October 10, 2007 10:08 AM (GMT)
booo.....~!!!! my all time fav. song from YUI
this happens?! what the heck is going on with all these artist copying one another?! what happen to originality?! and its her debut =="
YUI's good-bye days is way better...if she gets more popular than YUI..i'm going to break my own leg.... :angry

vivi - October 10, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
According to this site..(It's a Google's cashe since the original page can be viewed only with a cellphone)

Lyrics written by YVE
Song written by T2ya and 福本兆
Song arranged by Koma2 Kaz

So this song is not licensed...

atheon - October 10, 2007 10:20 AM (GMT)
^ Oh thanks for the info~

Too ballad-ish, not my type.

At first it does sound really similar to Good-bye days, especially the very first part of chorus. After a few listens, not that obvious to me any more. We shall wait for the full version~

Can't wait to see her face lol. 8 more days.

Don't be so upset, we as YUI fans should be more 'civilised' =) lol!!

asuna - October 10, 2007 11:09 AM (GMT)
the chorus does bear resemblance to good-bye days, but i'm not sure if i'll call it a complete rip off... i mean, there's a limit to how much creativity to produce songs these days, and i guess her composer was inspired by good-bye days :rolleye i can name at least 2 other songs which have parts borrowed from other songs...

lets wait and hear the full song first before condemning YVE

i'd say YUI will be proud to hear this :clap it IS her song after all

whats that saying - mimicry is the best form of flattery?

amane_kaoru - October 10, 2007 12:15 PM (GMT)
well... i think that this YVE get the idea for this song from Goodbye Days. so.... it's a copy version of Goodbye Days *pirated version*

ItIsHerWhoDidIt - October 10, 2007 01:56 PM (GMT)
At least she had the courtesy to hide her face.
One cannot guarantee what might just happen.

I'm not that pissed really, stuff like these happens fairly often.
Taiwanese singer Cyndi Wang had a Mandarin version of 'The Day You Went Away' by M2M(they rock). No one was screaming or doing anything back then. No one seemed to care.

yupeh - October 10, 2007 03:56 PM (GMT)
and should no one really care?
just because its the usual thing that happened, that it is a norm?
well, i don't think so...

hitokirix - October 10, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
This tune do really sound abit like good bye days..

-JiVe- - October 10, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
Daymn~ I thought there were copyright laws to protect great songs like Good-bye Days? ^^;;; either somebody paid good money for this or nobody's giving YUI's lawyers a call hehe

Fujii_Itsuki - October 10, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
Ah, no instrumental version eh. Else it would be more obvious I think. I can't help but overlap it with Goodbye Days and it's very noticeable. This should spark some interesting controversy. But, even though being copied isn't that nice, it's free publicity I suppose. People will start comparing but at least YUI is on the innocent side, it's always better to be copied than doing the copying imho. =/

Hmm, well, there's a difference between doing a cover version of another song and plagiarizing one. Those that do the cover version would credit the original composers at least(well, those i know about). But taking chunks of other songs without permission and claiming it your own is another story...This one, will wait and see...

P/S: It's also a theme to the movie (Tenshi ga kureta mono) currently being shown in Japanese cinemas...

s0l1dsn8k3 - October 10, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
The arguement of whether this song copies YUI's Good-bye Days is very similar to Avril Lavigne's song "Girlfriend" being similar to an old '70s song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" by Rubinoos. They both have very similar chorus part where it goes "Hey (hey), You (you), I wanna be your girlfriend/boyfriend" and more. But at least that case the songs are like 30 years apart, where as this case, it's only a little over 1 year.

I totally agree with this. And I love Good-bye Days (it's ARGUABLY my favourite song. ARGUABLY...because I love loads of YUI's songs, depending on my mood). So people, be civil, we- true fans- hear the similarities right away, and I agree to Fujii_Itsuki that it's better being copied than copying. I am also indignant 'bout the fact that I've personally seen/heard TWO things similar to YUI's without credits (the UNDERSTAND MV- Miriam Yeung and GBDays by this singer- YVE? X_x'??). But still...

Btw, does anyone still remember the Tomorrow's Way song by Fiona Sit? 'Dear Fiona'? Goodness I remember the indignance that boiled in that thread- and it was given credit.

Yes, YUI was destined for awesome-ship, even early in her career...though that might mean people may nick some of her stuff... and creativity seems to be running low in new producers?.... :YUIFace

I fully comprehend the meaning of a cover version.
And trust me, she did not have the consent of M2M nor did she credit M2M.

She'll get away with it(this YVE). I'm fairly sure.

the_chap - October 11, 2007 07:26 AM (GMT)
Well, copyright is always a problem...

Here's one...

Two people, Person V and Person Y, are songwriters and they both decide to write their own songs. Doesn't really matter who started writing first or how much time difference in when they both started.

Person Y releases a song, then some time later Person V releases a song of her own, which is similar to the one Person Y wrote. As long as Person V can prove that the song he/she wrote is her own and that it did not contain any parts of the song Person Y did, then V is not guilty of anything.

Also, copyright only protects the work, the expression of the idea... Not the idea itself.

An example I read off a blog some time ago, if you write a novel/comic about a young ninja, who has an evil and powerful fox spirit sealed away in his body and decided to be leader of his clan/town, you can't be sued.

But if you write a novel/comic about a young ninja called Naturo, who has an evil and powerful Kitsune spirit sealed away in his body and wishes to be the leader of his leaf village, then you might be in some trouble...

During the whole XEDO fiasco here in the land of the Men in White, I was able to read quite a bit on copyright stuff... But I must warn you, TINLA...

Enjoy.

Wait... if its a theme song for a movie...and if a lot of people watch the movie, then won't the song get popular...? Then people would just like her song cause of the movie... :rolleye
Agh~ how could a poser, YUI rip-off potentially become famous and popular~!?!?
The idea of it is just... :shock

Ah, these copyright laws are so confusing~ I guess there isn't anything anyone could do about it.

jun06 - October 11, 2007 09:04 AM (GMT)
I feel the indignation of AnimeFreak also. But well, what can we do? Definitely, I felt it sounded identical to GoodByeDay s chorus. Ahhh. Yui yui yui. We ll just see how things turn out ya? No point in all of us getting all upset; we cannot help much too. Only the radio audience in Japan could.. Hmmm

On Girlfriend and I wanna be your boyfriend. THAT WAS A TOTAL RIPOFF! They just changed it to a much more rocky version. The boy band sang I wanna be your boyfriend and Avril, being a girl, sang Girlfriend. How else was it not a ripoffffff? lol.

Cheeeers

KaiserKawaii - October 11, 2007 11:05 AM (GMT)
you can't actually say that it's a rip-off... many songs today sounds the same already...

some YUI songs even sound the same with other songs, or at least i've heard the melody before already...

I kind of agree with that. YUI's 'Winding Road' chorus is pretty similar to Avril's 'Complicated'. Or maybe I'm wrong. It's just when I first heard 'Winding Road', I got this in my head. I'm probably wrong because I haven't even relistened to 'Complicated' in a long time.

yukio - October 11, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
of course. when u compose songs, its often melodies from other songs that subconciously come into ur mind, not exactly tho. but it depends how much the melody is similar to hte song. this YVE's debut song chorus melody is identical to Goodbye Days except for a line lol. and if its like avril's song and YUI's song, its two diff languages so its kinda more acceptable. but still i wouldnt think YUI's melodies are exactly identical to another song

natsumi - October 12, 2007 04:09 AM (GMT)
that chorus really sounds like Good-bye days... :what
my most fav YUI song is being copied :what
anyway, no comment till that single is released... this "copyin" practice is gettin really annoyin these days...
