Title: Requesting: Acoustic Pieces

Envelope - September 25, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
Eh, guys, I need some acoustic pieces to learn. Strumming fine but arpeggios and what not would be nice to have. Any recommendations and link to their tabs would be great. Standard tuning if possible since I hate having to tune and tune all the time, you know how it is :P

nataliejwong - September 25, 2007 05:50 PM (GMT)
Hm, you could try 'Wonderwall' by Oasis. The song is played with a capo on the 2nd fret, but you try strumming the chords in standard tuning.

There are no bar chords in this song. :)

yukio - September 25, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
an awesome, srta harder, but still easy song hahaha, theres picking, fingerpicking if u want to or use a pick, switchfoot does it with a pick..

its called Only Hope by Switchfoot. download it and listen to it, and learn it XD its sick, go to www.ultimate-guitar.com and type in only hope, and look for artist name switchfoot for tabs.

if ur a guy, its also a great way of attracting girls XD cuz its from te movie A Walk to remember, and yea... hahaha. girls are like insane about it hahahah

err, played this at prom and it worked lol.

everything we had - the academy is...

Easy-ish...
"All You Wanted" by Michelle Branch

Fairly Easy...
"Everywhere" by Michelle Branch
"Breathe" by Michelle Branch
"Why Georgia" by John Mayer (has string slaps!!)

Medium...
"No Such Thing" by John Mayer (chords are slightly difficult if you're not used to his style)
"Quiet" by John Mayer
"Where We Gonna Go From Here" by Mat Kearney (timing is slightly difficult)
Disney Fingerstyle Guitar Book

Hard...
"Radical Dreamers ~Unstolen Jewel~" by Yasunori Mitsuda/Noriko Mitose

All-out crazy tunings for the hell of it...
"Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls (Tuning: BDDDDD)
"Black Balloon" by The Goo Goo Dolls (Tuning: C#C#G#C#G#C#)
See... I told you... :P

WTH. i've never seen BDDDDD LOL tahts hilarious

Cross - September 25, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
Before the song even hit the airwaves (one year too late) I had been playing Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah". Finger plucking chords whlie also maintaining a steady rhythm throughout - there are no breaks in between lol.

I'd love to learn Goo Goo Dolls songs - I just wish I had that dude's voice haha.

"Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls (Tuning: BDDDDD)

I shall try it tomorrow.

you_and_i - September 26, 2007 05:30 AM (GMT)
how do you play No such thing by john mayer? i really love that song. please tell me? :please

Envelope - September 28, 2007 01:31 AM (GMT)
Michelle Branch is too easy and doesn't sound good acoustically, as for JK's stuff, hmm, too hard haha. Something easy? Strumming with a few licks here and there? That sound good alone and without the need of singing?

Cross - September 28, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
Really depends on what you like - usually when I grab my acoustic I end up playing around to Green Day's Good Riddance (everyone knows that song but it's still great), Plain White T's, and Yellowcard's Rough Draft and 1 Year 6 months. I'm a pop punk guy, but the last song you might want to check out - it might be what you're looking for. It sounds really good without the need for singing and it's not easy but not extremely difficult either. Just the right mix of chord strumming and fast note picking - and singing the song while picking fast at the same time adds to the challenge, but that's your call.

When you get to the Intermediate Level, it's actually quite hard to gauge what songs are easy and what songs are hard.
Also, musical taste develops and you have preference to one particular style of music. So really, easy/hard songs actually end up being what songs you like and how much effort you're willing to put into them!!

=P

Natalie...
Please be VERY VERY careful when tuning to that!!...
If need be, the B string has to be changed to another high 'e' string!
The 'open' tuning gives "Iris" it's ghostly sound with the DDDDD part... :P

lol oh man i wanna try it but im too lazy to tune... u gotta tune so much! omg.. lol.

oh. more switchfoot haha... envelope, try Dare You To Move by switchfoot, u can just search it on youtube. the intro sounds awesome... sounds cool by itself, tho its kinda hard to find the exact tabs for it, i figured it out by watching a vid of jon foreman from swtichoot play it in an acoustic live.

its just all strumming but sounds sweet.. its not tooo easy but easy enough

Ahaha... Almost forgot about Switchfoot...

"On Fire" and "Awakening" are too good songs to play... "On Fire" has been done acoustically by John Foreman, but "Awakening" is more of an electric distortion rock song!!

Natalie...
Awww... Can't bear to see the Taylor take the strain?? *cough* *cough*
LAZZZYYYYY... :P
j/k j/k
I can understand... It's too ma fan to tune down and up anyway... :P

Try "DRIVE" by INCUBUS

Not simple chords, but it's fun to learn. It's a strumming song, but you gotta do mute strumming for the chords. The solo is quite easy, but it sounds nice. Standard tuning.

Tab @ Ultimate Guitar: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/i/incubus/drive_tab.htm

This was my first secular song I learned on the acoustic guitar. I play this song every few days... :)

Yes. Everyone loves to play Time of Your Life (Good Riddance). My high school computer science teacher played that to the class on the last day of school. I have two other friends who ALWAYS played it on their acoustics... it did get a bit annoying hearing it so often back then, but it's a nice easy song to learn.

When you start using the word "back then", that's when you're starting to get old. :hee
