Title: Weird sound..
Description: is there anything wrong?
uchihamel - September 17, 2007 07:09 AM (GMT)
I confess first that I'm a noob in this! :X Could someone pls help/explain to me what's going on? When I strum the strings occassionally there is a weird 'buzzing' sound best described as zzzzz. Most of the time happens towards the end. Kinda worried. @@

i think you held the string to far from the fret metal thing that separates the frets...lolx dunno wad its called but...i'll give you and example....

you must have pressing to high up like the area around the pink oval....
where you should be pressing the string at shown like the blue circle near the metal piece that divides the frets....
hope this helps...

One reason is that u're not pressing hard enough.
Or the action of the strings are too low, that when the string vibrate it hit's the other frets which produces the buzzing sound. "Action" is how far away your string is from your fretboard.

Fast replies.. Thanks! :clap
@chiyo: does that mean that the correct way of pressing a chord shud be with the fingers pressing around the blue area?
@tsunvun86: i tried pressing harder and it does help! thank you! btw, is there anything to do to change the action of the strings?

by pressing it nearer to the metal piece it produces a better sound...and clearer...
if too high up it'll buzz... doesn't really exactly have to be all the way down...as close as possible would do...

For an acoustic, the only thing u can do is replace the nut(the piece where your string rests on before reaching the headstoke).
It doesn't matter which part of the fret you're pressing as long as u press hard enough. Well of course it will require less effort if u press nearer to the fret.

All right I think I've got it! :YUIFace Thanks again. Shall practice hard! Last thing.. Not related to the topic but.. Is there any difference between a classical guitar class and an acoustic class(as in lesson)? The basics shud be the same right..? Cos my class happens to be a classical one.

erm..i think acoustic and classical classes basics are the same...
you have to learn how to pick first...
types of fingering...plucking....strumming and so on...
after that...i'm not sure...xD i quit class before i went to the advanced stage...

tsunvun86, I thought you can change the action by adjust the truss rod as well, no?
