Anyone here ( North America) or Overseas or Asia... watch hockey?
Well NHL is about to start.in October.
Ah I've been waiting for this for a while now since i got tired of watching baseball....
So, who are you cheering up for? For me, of course my home team Vancouver Canucks.
If you don't really know about NHL you have to check it out and watch some highlights. It's such a great sports! i've been fan of it since the year i came here. :good
BTW watch free NHL pre- season online and live at
http://www.nhl.tv/team/consoleYou have to register though

Like you, I've liked the game ever since I came here (oh, 10+ ago) :suki
And dude ... You registered a bit late, but back in April when the playoff was starting, I wrote this to go along with YUI's song
How Crazy (it's not that great since I did it half awake) :sry :
http://yui-lover.com/index.php?showtopic=3761I'm a hockey nut. Other than the Ottawa Senators, I cheer for all other Canadian teams. My favourite, for now, is still the Leafs, of course, being a Torontonian myself. I also enjoy watching Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers play (though this past season I think it made everyone hate the Oilers now).
I also play ball hockey twice a week. I've also played every edition of EA Sports NHL hockey game since NHL '94. :hee
Always exciting when hockey is back. But it's still the most exciting when the playoff starts. Especially the first round when there's like 4 games a night. :clap

I watch hockey, and I'm not Canadian =P .
I root for the Anaheim Ducks, and not because they are the current champs, but because they have a team with a great mix of tough guys as well as skilled players. Too many teams like the NYR, Avalanche, and Canucks don't have fighters and tough guys on their teams, and see how poorly they did. Teams like Anaheim and Ottawa are succeeding with tough guy rosters even against the NHL's agenda (it seems) to remove physical play and fighting from the game.
I used to play roller and ice hockey, but haven't laced up in more than 6 years. I wonder if I can still play ok?
I hope it's a good year for hockey, and I hope Gary Bettman is no longer commissioner much longer.

I watch the NBA and have a little blog to go with it
http://netsophobia.wordpress.comsorry, cheap publicity.
I love NHL fights tho.
Fandan - September 22, 2007 09:02 AM (GMT)
You ever seen an NBA fight? Those huge guys throw punches like girls. In that recent brawl with the Pacers, Jermaine O'Neal sucker punches a fan full on the side of his face, and the guy barely looks fazed. I remember watching Alonzo Mourning throwing a cat-fight punch one game. I also recall Jerry Stackhouse sucker-punching Jeff Hornachek in some game, and Horny winces then gives Stackhouse a "come on, you call that a punch?" look. In the NHL, fighters actually hurt each other.
sirnanzy - September 22, 2007 09:06 AM (GMT)
Thats why I say i love NHL fights..some of them actually set out to hurt the other player on purpose..scary..

Nice Fandan. You played hockey too eh? If you ever come to Toronto, you can play ball hockey with my group of guys.
Typical non-hockey fan, sirnanzy. Just like the fights. I, on the other hand, am a fan of the game, the whole game, including the fighting. I do think fighting needs to be in the game to keep the players in check.
I agree with Fandan that teams need a few tough guys. But with this "new" NHL, you now need tough guys that can move and skate just as well as the other skilled players. The problem now is because of the transition from the pre-lockout game, there aren't enough of these mobile tough guys to go around the league.
I think the 30-team league is too big. If they go back to 26 teams, the league would be much better overall.
Gary Bettman has been the commissioner for too long I think. It's time for someone new to step in.

Cool s0l1dsn8k3, thanks for the invite. I've wanted to visit Canada for a while, just haven't made it that far north yet. I'd love to see a Canadian hockey team live at the arena, but I figure it'd be expensive, especially now that the US dollar is about 1:1 with the Canadian dollar (is it called a loonie?).
I'm also a fan of the whole game, but the physical aspects are what really separate it from other sports, so I hope they don't remove that any more than they have. You're right about there not being enough mobile and hockey-capable fighters, and it's the ones who can play and fight that I really admire and make the sport great.
Unfortunately as much as I dislike Bettman, he's making money for the owners and he won the big dispute with the players' union, further gaining the owners' backing. Too bad he can't get a big TV deal and attendance was down at a lot of big market arenas last year, so he'll have to answer for that if things don't improve. Good riddance, as long as the next guy likes the rough stuff.

You know what, being such a hockey fan myself, I have never been to the actual area to watch a single game! :what :sry
Tickets to the Toronto Maple Leafs is one of the most expensive in the league. They are expensive simple because "they can". Since the Leafs is so popular among Canadians, and with many corporates buying the tickets, there is no need to keep the prices down. They milk it all they want. But with the relatively high ticket prices, every home game is still almost sold out, especially against rival teams. That's why it's so hard to get their tickets. Plus I never have the friends to go with me to watch a game. =(
Now that the Canadian dollar is on par with the US, it is relatively more expensive in that sense. And yeah, the nickname for our dollar is a Loonie.
Cybergeron89 - September 23, 2007 07:39 AM (GMT)
yeah i wish i could go 'Nucks games too but the tickets here been sold out like u guyz. idk about the prices though but i really wish i could go watch atleast one game

I'm a Leafs fan as well, since I'm from Toronto. I've been a fan of hockey for like..9 years (wow o.o) lol Yeah.
Hope the Leafs will make it to the playoffs this year.

Unfortunately I will be missing it, at least Live, because I have work on Saturday. :cry
I can record it, but watching a sports event that's already happened just doesn't feel the same. @@
