Description: to know how to strum and change chords

ok. if you ask me to listen to its happy line i know the pattern. its like C chord goes down down up down up down down up (well i listened and i think is like that)
then u switch to G chord and strum the same pattern..but what about goodbye days? is like the first chord u strum 3 times down then up down up down for the next chord and then up down up down up down. the different pattern for each chord is the difficult thing. how u guys listen to it? i mean i forced my ears really hard but sounds like the same.

For me... I don't follow them. Create your own strumming patterns. Try it and you'll get better in time.
If you wanna follow exactly to the original track then you'll have to train your ear. By that it means you have to figure it out yourself even if it takes a million years. :P

Strumming patterns vary throughout EVERY song (unless the guitarist is playing a very easy pattern or it's... A SYNTH GUITAR... =.=")

If you keep following the strumming patterns of songs, you won't be able to develop your own creative ways of strumming. Try ACCOMPANYING the song, rather than following it exactly! :D

I think of myself having a decent pair of ears when listening for details like strumming patterns. So most of the time I can just listen and should know what is it. (doing it myself is another matter though ... haha :sry)

For Good-bye Days, the repeating strumming pattern spreads over 2 chords, instead of 1 chord like in It's happy line.

Basically, Aadd9 to E is one complete pattern, and then Bm7 to Dadd9 repeats that pattern. An example of the strumming pattern is like this:

Let's say this is the count:

CODE
1       2       3       4       |5       6       7       8
down up down up down up down up |down up down up down up down up

The strumming is:

CODE

Aadd9                            E
1       2       3       4       |5       6       7       8
down    down    down    down up |down up down    down up down up
        Da-     ka-     ra               i-                ...

Then repeat the pattern for Bm7 and Daad9 where Aadd9 and E is repectively. This is the main strumming pattern in the verse and chorus. There are slight variations at certain parts of the song, but you can start with this.

There was a thread about Good-bye Days strumming as well:

I did the same thing as sirnanzy but I wasn't any good. Speaking of the acoustic version. Some intro picking tabs would be very helpful. :hee
