Title: seems impossible

shinkaii - September 2, 2007 02:46 PM (GMT)
ok. i have problems with chords that requires my pinky finger and the 3rd finger to press frets that are at leasts 2 fret apart. e.g my pinky plays the 3rd fret of 1st string and my 3rd finger press the 3rd fret of 4th string...i have problems pressing like this...i have to do it someting..i practice so hard i still cant get it. is this how human fingers work? or i have not praticed enough?

Take time to work out the most comfortable position for your fingers. Your fingers might just not be used to stretching or are still stiff. I am by no means a professional, so my advice might hinder you. You might want to wait for a professional's advice. :X

ok thanks. i'll figure out slowly =]

Can you tab out an example of a chord you're trying to play?

It might be because you've got the wrong fingering positions, i.e. the wrong fingers on the wrong frets! Sometimes, just because a score tells you to put the fingers at specific frets doesn't mean that it is necessarily comfortable for you!
I've developed into using my thumb for John Mayer styled chords!

It all depends on the chords and your fingers!! :good

oh ok..example would be Dm/C or ths chord ( i dont know the name so i'll tell u what is it)

1st string fret 4
2nd string fret 1
3rd string fret 2
4th string fret 3

JKDragoon - September 3, 2007 01:49 PM (GMT)
Ermmm... Could you type that out in guitar format... XD

E---3
B---1
G---0
D---2
A---3
E---x

Like that for example??

Sometimes, you shouldn't worry that your index finger collides with other strings, as long as you play the string it's SUPPOSED to play!! Remember that the fingers that hit higher frets will still sound, even if the index finger touches the first few strings (think barre chords where the last 3 fingers nullify the index finger, which acts as a capo!)

4
1
2
3

?

start by slamming your pinky down on 4 and do whatever Envelope said

tsunvun86 - September 4, 2007 08:15 AM (GMT)

It sounds weird and I don't think it's Dm/C

JKDragoon - September 4, 2007 09:09 AM (GMT)
xx3214 doesn't sound like a chord to me either... :S

Shinkaii...
It's easier to produce sound (without buzzing) by fretting the chord by placing your fingers closer to the RIGHT side of the fret. If your pinky can't reach that far, press down HARDER... You'll should still be able to produce the sound...
It'll be hard at first because your pinky isn't well-developed enough to have the strength to press hard when it's further away from your other fingers. Just keep practicing and eventually, you'll get it!!!

Could this chord be from My Generation? Anyways, that chord looks hard. It will take some time for the fingers to learn the placement.

And it looks like you're a beginner right, Shinkaii? You should probably start with an easier song.

asuna - September 5, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
that IS a hard chord to do >.< my fingers were stretching to the max when i tried it haha... guess it takes practice to smoothen it out

Alpharius - September 9, 2007 03:00 AM (GMT)
i would try to help. but i have no idea what chord you're trying to play 0_0"...
sounds pretty complicated though...kinda like that e-7 E-3 stretch in at zanarkand

AHHH... Hahahaha!!...
Because of natsubayashi's camera angle, he's cheated you into thinking he places his pinky on the 4th fret!!
Actually... He's doing a Michelle Branch pinky add-on...

The chord he plays in the Chorus is actually a C chord, x32013 or...
E--3
B--1
G--0
D--2
A--3
E--x

By placing the pinky on the 3rd fret, he adds a high G to the C chord.

So, the song's chorus goes like this...
Cadd9 (x35533) I feel my...
F (133211) soul... Take me your...
C (x32013) way... sooo...
Dm7 (xx0211) oouuu... tatta hi...
etc.

It's much easier to place the pinky of the 3rd fret... Try it out!! ;)

Nice, i wanna see it too.

tsunvun86 - September 9, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
x32013 is still a C. What is added is the 5th note of the scale, which still make it a C.
But if a bass 5th note G is added, then it'll be C on G.

Ahhh!! Yeah... Sorry about that... I was thinking the John Mayer thumb chord... XD
Thx for the correction Stephen!!
