Title: About spamming.....
mono - August 23, 2007 01:12 PM (GMT)
I think the mods also noticed there were a lot of spamming these days.........
those spambots probably register and spam our forum automatically
I wonder if there are ways to block them?

Add special questions about YUI in the registration pages where you fill in yr details. Spambots only have general information needed for registrations. They won't have specific answers for questions like these.

We need to ask the mods to do this if possible ^^

^ that kind of protection is called Captcha, where the user has to enter an alphanumeric code displayed from a randomly generated image to confirm a real user's presence. Don't know if there is a plugin or something to add that to Invisionfree.

Lately, i can't find any spammer on this forum.
and it's too dangerous if there are spammer on this forum.
Hire Spam Killer to kill the spammer.

Another good way is to forbit their post(s) to be shown unless a mod approves of it. I've seen this used for the other forum I used. I was a newb and my posts always ended up having to be verified before anyone could view them.
viper92583 - August 27, 2007 12:32 PM (GMT)
that's not a bad idea...but it would be kind of a pain to go through and do post verifications for all users...if we did that, just keep it on post verification for the first post or first 2 for users...spammers always kill off on their first post, so that would likely keep it off the boards...
unfortunately, there's gonna be spam...especially since we're getting to be a fairly large community...does admittedly keep people on their toes though...heh

I am sick of those spam bot, :weirdpc
so now I turn on Admin validation, which mean all new reg member need to review by me or other admin.
So if you know someone who need to be apporve pm me
And for the new register you need to pm me too to get apporve too.
JustAnotherYUILover - August 30, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
Nice job Reset. That seems like a pretty simple yet effective alternative.

NorthernLight[Zzz] - August 30, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)

Helixius - August 30, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
Hmm so how does the system work? I don't really get it.
The new members can register, but can't post until they PM the admins and get approved?
laryuki - August 30, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
Wow that's great!!! I hate those spammers!!! they are everywhere...
Great job!!!
Jill-Jênn - September 2, 2007 11:27 AM (GMT)
Hey there is an alternative: put in the registration form a field: "6 x 7 = ?", spambots can't answer.
Even the captcha ("verification code") can be broken.

You mean you can't add any field? That's weird. If you really cannot, you still can modify the PHP code, don't you?
s0l1dsn8k3 - September 2, 2007 11:32 AM (GMT)
^ unfortunately Jill-Jenn, we're using the public InvisionFree, which does not allow for changing or adding additional features. That means we cannot modify the PHP codes. We can only change certain parts of the skin and activate or deactivate existing available features.

Doesn't exist any mod, like with phpBB?
By the way, why do you put a "^" and the beginning of some of your posts?
s0l1dsn8k3 - September 2, 2007 11:54 AM (GMT)
phpBB is a free open source message board system that you can install on your own web host where you can install mods to add features. But InvisionFree is controlled shared public message board that anyone can sign up for (like public blogs). If the feature isn't there, then usually means you can't add it either.
I usually use "^" to specify that I'm replying to the post directly above mine.

And if you type ^ then an "e", does that make "ê"?
By the way, why this nickname? Did you switch the "nickname" and "password" fields? :D Just kidding :)
s0l1dsn8k3 - September 2, 2007 12:42 PM (GMT)
what if I tell you my nickname and password are the same? hahaha. j/k.
I use this name because very often on other popular boards, snake and solidsnake are already taken. And I guess there's no such problem with yours.
