Shiina Ringo is, in my opinion, one of the most unique and innovative artists out right now. Her album, "Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana" is especially varied. Musical styles flit about nervously, even in the same song. The modernism of the odd effects and overall jazz quality clash to create something that is old, beautiful, and gentle without appearing so.
Tokyo Jihen, also known as Tokyo Incidents, is her new band, consisting of the backup band she used during her last solo tour. She is the lead vocalist and piano player. The music, while not as experimental as her solo work, maintains a similar style.
So, any fans here?
ah hell yeaa!!! XD~ i luv shiina!!!!! i agree about her style of musiQ being really diverse! n she is definitely one of a kind! me n one of my friends actually did the Gibbs cover for her!!! LOL XD~
one thing that made me curious though was that I thought Tokyo Jihen was her "old band" n then NOW, she is a solo artist...i heard the news about their break up...
anyway, even as a solo artist, she never fails to impress us! i luv her song, stem! i've been hooked on it for the longest time! truly inspirational ^_^
I don't think they broke up, but I have been a bit behind on breaking news in the world of Japanese music.
The only thing I've heard about major changes is the fact that HZM, their keyboardist, and guitarist Hirama Mikio quit the band last July. However, in September, their spots were filled by Izawa Ichiyou and Ukigumo.
I haven't listened to Tokyo Jihen's 2nd album >_<
I'm a fan of both Shiina as a solo and as in the band..Her voice is really weird and I know some people think it's annoying, but surprisingly it fuses well with the music..That's Shiina Ringo for you ^^
Btw, the bassist of Tokyo Jihen was known to be van Tomiko's boy friend. (I dunno 'bout their realationship now) It's funny that people at daiforum keep bashing him haha....
