Title: about tuning and holding of pick

firstly, when i hold a pick and do some strumming, i will start to lose my pick. meaning if i strum hard, i may drop my pick, if strum lightly, i may not drop, i may just not able to hold the pick properly, well...kinda hard to explain...its like, i am holding the pick where the triangle part of the pick is used for strumming, slowly the pick will move away because of strumming. if i hold the pick tightly, the strumming will be loud...it can be soft, if i hold it lightly, the strumming and be soft or loud, but i may drop the pick. how?

i heard abt standard and half tuning and so on. how do you know whats half tunning and stuffs?

Regarding strumming, you should try to brush the strings lightly for most purposes. You hold the pick firmly but not hard.

With down strokes you should angle the pick up so it bounces off each string nicely rather than catching on it.

With up strokes you should do the reverse and angle the pick down.

This helps give you a cleaner sound and makes strumming easier. This is just a practice thing really. You'll find out the best way of holding the pick and strumming for yourself.

Yup... Thes best way of holding a pick is in yourself... Many people hold it in different ways...

When I first started... My friend taught me one way of holding picks, which he claim is the correct way... Sad to say... Whenever i hold it the way he taught... Within 5 mins of playing time... The pick will drop into the hole... And I had to dig hard to get it out... :huhuhu Thats why i decided to try my own way of holding picks...

The bottomline is... You should feel comfortable when holding it...

As for half tuning... It basically tuning the guitar either half a key up or down... Usually down though as you can easily make the key go higher with the help of a capo...

For example Tokyo... You have to tune it half key down as the song is in Gb...

Hope that this is not too confusing for you...

i see...what abt its happy line? what kindof tunning?

I believe that its just standard tuning...as far as I know, TOKYO is the only song of YUI's that you have to tune down.

Holding of the pick pissed me off when i first started it, but i got comfortable with it coz i got used to it. If i hold hte pick too hard then i strum loud but with horrible sounds, and if i hold the pick lightly i lose control of it and drop it. What i do is i hold the pick not too hard and not too lightly.

Still, every now and then I'll drop the guitar pick onto the ground or into the sound hole, but then I'll just pick it up where I dropped the pick and play on. I don't hold the 'right' way, but really, there is no real 'right' way to hold...its all about personal preference.

yes, there isn't a right way to play it, but you should hold the pick with your way of holding it. i dun use much acoustic coz its too fat XD but i use it when i couldn't be bothered setting up my electric.

I think the best way is place yr pick perpendicular to yr thumb.
But most importantly when you're playing your pick should be perpendicular to the guitar strings.

*Comes out of nowhere*
It's important to be careful not to use too much of the pick's body while strumming...Else...It might just fall into the hole. XD
That happened to my friend alot. Try to have a good angle while strumming to make it easy for the pick to go upwards or downwards.

At least...That's what I think. Not too good at telling other people how it's done. XD
