e-ma. - May 13, 2007 08:47 AM (GMT)
I have a tiny question on this.... I'm trying to play the theme song for the Simpsons and I can do everything except that bit in red. I have no idea which string to pluck.... can someone help me plz?

Thanks!

it means pluck the 3 strings together at the same times, using 3 fingers ^^

is that same with strumming from 5th string to the 3rd string as well?
natsumi - May 13, 2007 09:30 AM (GMT)
i think it'll sound a lil diff
but normally when plucking using fingers, we'll do that, i mean pluck the 3 strings together at the same time using 3 fingers...

Ooh.. i see. I'm now practising Tokyo's intro.. Should i use the pick or finger?
natsumi - May 13, 2007 09:52 AM (GMT)
ermm... that depends if u r gonna play the whole song using finger or pick ^^"
coz right after the intro, that's where the strumming starts ....
as u can see in the Tokyo's PV, YUI strums her guitar using her index finger ..... n so, she plays the intro using her finger :)
but u can do the same thing using a pick too..
i dont play the plucking version of intro for the song tokyo tho... i only play the acoustic version of intro :swt
i think, plucking using all the four fingers applies to certain songs, especially those 'plucking' songs, for eg, extreme/westlife's more than words... at least, that's what i do playin westlife's more than word
:swt

More Than Words?! I'm looking for it's music sheet but can't find it :huhuhu , hope i can play that song cuz my dad loves it, maybe can impress him if i can play the song for him lolz..
i'm using fingers for the strumming, hehe guess i'll use finger for intro, i'm so stupid cuz i've been practising for the intro using the pick :swt
and what did you mean by the acoustic version for Tokyo's intro, how is it?

e-ma, that last bit needs to pluck the 3 strings with 3 fingers at the same time. The 3 fingers, should be the thumb, index, and middle fingers on A, D, and G strings respectively.
I don't think this is as difficult as it may seem since the 3 strings are beside each other. But the difficult part would the change of the left-hand fingers position from playing the single note to the 3 strings.
PeaceViolet, strumming these 3 strings would be difficult because you'll need to mute the other 3 strings that are not played. Plus, as natsumi mentioned, it would sound slightly different because there is a delay when strumming the strings in sequence. That's why that last part must be finger-plucked so they sound in unison.
There are other songs that are more suitable for finger plucking, some with all four fingers. Sometimes, the decision to go finger or pick depends on the sound that you would like for the song. Finger plucking gives a softer tone, while a pick would produce sharp notes.
As for the Tokyo intro, you can pluck with fingers but the strumming afterwards would mean you have to strum with fingers. However, this intro is simple enough that plucking with a pick is just fine.
