Title: I NEED HELP!!!
Description: electronic tuner =.="
natsumi - May 10, 2007 09:43 AM (GMT)
i juz bought myself an electronic tuner... and apparently, i dont how to use it :swt what is the standard tuning??? what's this 440 Hz, 441 Hz and etc all about?? it says in the instructions that 440Hz is the standard tuning... and i should tune my strings one by one until the LED turns green..... and i did exactly as told and the LED turned green for all the 6 strings, but when i play it, it juz doesnt sounds right =.="
and another thing that i dont understand is, when i play the G string, the LED turns green showing a F# note at the top left corner of the tuner... did i do the right thing?? i dont understand a thing :huhuhu :huhuhu the promoter at the guitar shop told me that it's(the tuner) easy to use but it's juz too complicated for me :huhuhu :huhuhu somebody help me.... all my strings are out of tune :huhuhu
//EDIT
wait, i think i know how to use it now :swt sry... juz ignore this thread :swt

Standard tuning means the standard E A D G B e string tuning which is 440Hz.
I think you've tuned yr G string to F# which is half step lower. The only thing to do is up-tune it more till it says G.
natsumi - May 10, 2007 10:31 AM (GMT)
thank you ^^
it's kinda hard to get the strings tuned, it's either flashes red or yellow :bash
japboy - May 10, 2007 10:40 AM (GMT)
can ask you guys something??
what is electric tuner?? sorry i'm kinda new in this stuff...
any picture of it??
natsumi - May 10, 2007 10:52 AM (GMT)
here's mine, juz got it today :D after been playing the guitar for about 4 months :swt

cost me RM85 :huhuhu :huhuhu when i ask the promoter, he actually showed me the RM118 ones, cant afford :huhuhu
s0l1dsn8k3 - May 10, 2007 02:57 PM (GMT)
The 440Hz and 441Hz refer to the sound frequency of the A note. In general, 440Hz is the standard and should be tuned to that. But there are occasions, mostly in the classical world I think, that the A note prefers to be tuned to 441Hz frequency.
I'm old school and I still use, and prefer to use, a pitch pipe for tuning.
atheon - May 10, 2007 03:11 PM (GMT)
Finally you got yourself a tuner :P
There are cheaper ones btw. Yours consider 'high-end' models.
Mine cost RM 99 though :huhuhu :huhuhu Scammed. It sucks to buy music equipments in Malaysia (I'm ranting).
Yours doesn't have metronome??

what's that??
dont think so mine have it  the RM118 ones might have it coz the guy told me there's only 1 'application' that the RM118 have it but not mine....
s0l1dsn8k3 - May 10, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
Metronome is the thing that goes tick-tock-tick-tock so it can provide the basic beats and you can count the beats and play your song following it.
A mechanical one (I think they might be battery powered anyway) would have an arm that swings left and right while producing the tick-tock sound.

atheon - May 10, 2007 03:40 PM (GMT)
^ I didn't demo my tuner ah that day?? Opps.
Where did you buy it anyway?? If RM 85 should be able to get one with metronome...or might be...
natsumi - May 10, 2007 03:50 PM (GMT)
yea, you did demo-ed it that day :swt
i got it from The Guitar Collection @ Mid Valley, went there today and changed a new set of guitar strings as well... :P
now they are shining lol XD but will only last a few days =.="
atheon - May 10, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
The Guitar Collection is the one on upstairs?? You asked them to change the strings for you? How much they charged? What strings you bought? What gauge??
I asked too many questions lol. Purposely =P Doing some 'marketing' research now, trying to find the cheapest music store in Malaysia :P
My guitar teacher said, he said la, it's better to get tuner that comes with metronome. But since you bought it, you still can use metronome, if you have Sony Ericsson phone XD Don't know which model though. Maybe W810 ish ones.
natsumi - May 10, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
yea, the one beside the cinemas ^^
yea, i asked them to change the strings for me and they charged me RM10
er... gauge ah, Light .011 - .052
strings ah, D'Addario EZ910 (cheap ones lol, im poor :huhuhu )
metronome with sony ericson phone?? i nvr knew that ... really??
mine is K750i, but i dont think so that my phone have such function....
atheon - May 10, 2007 04:20 PM (GMT)
I think those 'walkman' phone has it, W810 or something, they even have the guitar chords
Next time we change strings together gether. I was charged RM 18 once zzz. I 'sucessfully' changed mine few days ago (for the first time). D'Addario 0.11 too :P RM 22 I think.
Next will be my classical guitar :swt Bought the strings today...
natsumi - May 10, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
ooo, i bought my strings for RM17
u mean u changed the strings yourself??
W810 hmm.... *goes to 8 with my fren's phone lol!*
oh, ok... but that will be another few months before i change my strings again :swt
tsunvun86 - May 10, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
Wow you guys are talking like changing strings is a big feat...... Just put it through the whole wind it over the tuning machine... turn turn turn.... ta da!
Anyway polish your strings often if you don't want it to sound or look dull..... I' just too lazy to do so..............
natsumi - May 12, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
some question on electronic tuner =.= sry for being a noob :swt
for 'Tokyo' , the tuning is Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
so, i have to tune my guitar to that tuning which is half step down, i think??
but when i 'tune down' what should appear on my electronic tuner?? i mean izit Eb = D# , or ??
normally, i juz play 'tokyo' using the standard tuning before i get my tuner few days back ^^"
s0l1dsn8k3 - May 12, 2007 06:22 AM (GMT)
^ Yes ... Eb is the same as D#.
I don't have an electric tuner myself, but I would imagine that it should display D#, if it does display the half-step down tuning.

wow RM10 to change the guitar string..that's a rip off...i remember my first time trying to change the strings..i went to surf the net and read thru the instructions..it took me an hour to get it done..i guess coz i'm kinda isolated here so need to make my own initiative.. :huhuhu
as for tuning my guitar i stopped playing for 3 months! coz it sounded so bad i had to wait for one of my friends to come over and tune it for me..now i'm using a software installed in my laptop that give out the standard tuning and i just listened and tuned accordingly..i'd love to get my hand on one of those electronic tuner tho :swt
>ch|yo< - May 13, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
i had my strings changed at guitar collection too...
the guy asked me whether i want him to change the string for me... so i said yes...w/o knowing that i must pay for it!! :scare
RM10 is alot :huhuhu
but it was worth it for me...i get to see the old man tune my guitar with his ears...he tunes it like how yui tuned her guitar in taiyou no uta...i went
natsumi - May 13, 2007 12:49 PM (GMT)
lol, which guitar collection branch did u went to?
the guy who changed the strings for me tuned it using the electronic tuner tho....
>ch|yo< - May 13, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
here at Taman Tun Dr.Ismail...they got alot of branches....
do you find the guitar stuff in there on a resonable price?
natsumi - May 13, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
im not sure tho, i've only visited 4 guitar stores so far, the one in The Curve(not sure what's the name :swt ), The Guitar Store at cheras, The Guitar Collection(the one where i bought my guitar from) in mid valley and another music store in Mid Valley(not sure what's the name also :swt , izit 'The Rhapsody'?).......
juz had glance around the prices of the guitars in those stores :swt except for The Guitar Collection, but they dont really hav a wide range of guitars tho...
for this prices thingy, maybe you should ask atheon, since she's more 'pro' in these stuffs and she's currently doing some marketing research lol
>ch|yo< - May 13, 2007 02:54 PM (GMT)
haha i didn't know the curve got a guitar store...
well gotta go seek atheon-sama for advice XD
natsumi - May 13, 2007 02:58 PM (GMT)
lol! it's not really a guitar store, it's a music store, and it's not really the curve, it's the complex connected to Ikea(i forgot the name :swt ) ... anyway, the music store is right beside popular and the 'safari' i think.. cant remember the name also... u know the animal shop :P i seldom go there lol
>ch|yo< - May 13, 2007 03:00 PM (GMT)

atheon - May 14, 2007 06:21 AM (GMT)
Sorry didn't check on this thread XD
I don't know much about the price, because normally you have to bargain with them, they usually marked up the price. I suck at bargaining so always got cheated :huhuhu But so far the price I think the price at The Guitar Store is more reasonable, imo. But then I asked some guy in that shop to reserve one YUI's yellow-white Fender guitar strap for me few months ago, because it was sold out after I went there again to buy it >.< Till now they still haven't call yet zzz...so far I only saw that strap in this store only.........
Lai I bring you guys to Bentley Music next time, at Sg. Wang. Got alot of Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters lol. You can buy Fender picks too XD They don't have Delrin picks though :swt
why is it so hard to get 'specific' guitar accessories in Malaysia :bash
I just went to the one in Ikano too 2 weeks ago :P

atheon - May 14, 2007 06:47 AM (GMT)
^ Don't have. Ironically =.= So called Fender's Malaysia distributor. I think they have other colours. They hide those Fender straps behind the cashier and displayed Planet Waves's ones in one big corner :swt
But they have Squier Hello Kitty Strat though XD
japboy: Around RM 38 (The Guitar Store) I think. Not that expensive as I thought it would be lol.
