Title: Help with strumming pattern for Goodbye Days
FingonTinuviel - May 5, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
hey, can anyone post the strumming pattern for Goodbye Days? I'm not good at listening and never took guitar theory before. thnx XD
Hanai - May 10, 2007 01:26 PM (GMT)
Hm~~. I've keep watching YUI play Goodbye Days.
And can't see what strumming she's used.
I've only play with my way.
I wanna get the strumming patterns too.
Hope anyone can help us to solve this.

Let's say this is the count:
| CODE |
1 2 3 4 |5 6 7 8 down up down up down up down up |down up down up down up down up
|
This is the strumming that is played from her Thank you My teens documentary:
| CODE |
1 2 3 4 |5 6 7 8 down down down down up |down up down down up down up Da- ka- ra i- ...
|
This is the main strumming pattern. There are slight variations at certain parts of the song, but you can start with this.

I bet solidsnake could just make a video but it's better to learn more, right? XD
Practice reading, hearing and playing everyday and you'll get used to playing rhythm guitar and it'll be easy to copy a rhythm.
For example, using solidsnake's count, it basically means that when you're trying to listen to the rhythm, if the strum is faster than the next count, it has to be an upstrum, right? B)
And every song has a speed...a 'tempo' at which the count should go.
Well, that's just what I think since I just by looking at a chord sheet so... Good luck guys!

^ I can make a video of myself air-strumming. Like that YUI video air-strumming Feel My Soul. How's that?
I've glanced at the chords for Good-bye Days before but I haven't really played it since I've been focusing on couple of other songs. I want to get them right without buzzing, slow downs (to switch chords), and proper strumming before I move on.
I think it's better that you can play 2 perfect songs rather than playing many more songs that are half-assed.

I might get a new webcam this week-end!!!~
If you guys really can't get it, just tell me. Pm if you want also.
There are probably other people that could help around here. XP

lol actually a couple of days ago i re-recorded my goodbye days strumming explanation but i havent uploaded yet. but i think multiple people should upload it so we can get multiple perspectives!
FingonTinuviel - May 13, 2007 07:47 AM (GMT)
not sure whether im interpreting it correctly but solidsnake, the strumming must be very fast. i thought yui's slower than that >.<
zuttodayo - upload it pls XD
s0l1dsn8k3 - May 13, 2007 08:28 AM (GMT)
I just gave Good-bye Days a try earlier today. The main strumming pattern that I posted is correct. It may seem fast, but it's not really that fast.
When YUI plays this song in solo acoustic, like the street live from her Thank you My teen documentary, she does play the song in a slower speed, which may look as though YUI plays it slower. But the strumming pattern remains the same, just strumming as a slightly slower pace.

hey thnx for the video,, but i still confuse... when we suppose to change the chord?
s0l1dsn8k3 - May 14, 2007 05:52 AM (GMT)
From the count I have in my post above, you change chords just before count "5", and of course just before count "1" of the next strumming sequence.
FingonTinuviel - May 14, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
thanx solidsnake and ezak. can follow her verses now =] but im still confused with the intro - how do you play them? ezak's video just strummed them while yui's version does the plucking. but the plucking sounds weird when i do it >< not too sure when to pluck n when to strum

Hey Ezak, may I ask where did u get your tabs? When I play the tabs I got, they sound so wrong. Also, thanks for all uploading the video!

JustAnotherYUILover - May 15, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Thanks a lot solidsnake! I guess I had the right tabs but I'm just probably switching chords at the wrong time. Hope someone can hint me on this :P .

^ check my short post above (about 5 posts above), which also refers to my prev post (3rd post of this thread).
JustAnotherYUILover - May 15, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
Thanks solidsnake, so I decided to use the strumming pattern from the image Reset hosted (GOGO guitar). When I play the one from GOGO guitar, I can hear that the first 7 strums((Aadd9)down,down,(E)down&up&down&up&down) of the song sound right. I don't know the next part because I don't know if I'm suppose to change chords. I made a visual below to explain what I mean. I know it's not the best but I hope you understand what I mean. Any help on this would really be appreciated. Thanks!
s0l1dsn8k3 - May 15, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
From you circled illustration, Aadd9 should play the first 4 strums, and then switch to E chord.
This Go!Go!Guitar strumming pattern is similar to the one I posted (3rd post of the thread). The difference is very minor and it's just a personal preference of how you want to play the song.
If you draw a line from the left-edge of the chord-diagram down through the strumming pattern, you'll see at which point you are suppose to change chords. And unless a new chord diagram is displayed, you keep on playing the same chord. So for the "what chord do these strums apply to", these are still played in E chord.
In the next bar of the music, you'll see this symbol (%). This symbol means to repeat the previous strumming pattern here with these chords above.
So after you played the E chord part, you switch to Bm7 and strum the same pattern as you did for Aadd9, and after that, switch to Dadd9 and strum like you did playing the E chord.

Oh man I can't thank you enough. I think I get it. Thanks so much on spending your own time to help me out on my individual problem!

Don't worry about it. I didn't really look into the music sheet for this song before because of the slightly more number of barre chords in the song. But, I did know the strumming pattern already before since I listen and air-strum quite often.
But since this topic started, and I'm getting a little bored of practicing the barre chords in I remember you, and Tokyo, I decided to begin to learn Good-bye Days myself also.

Yea!~ Keep it up until you can play LIFE!~
It's so fun to play XD
But too much barring...
Look at my video!! I had to take a break at some point~
Must try harder!!~ I feel like I didn't learn much from 5 months of guitar...Maybe I should play more and add a few songs to my inventory XD
@JustAnotherYUILover: I'm not too good at explaining but er...If you can, try to make up your own interpretation of the strumming patterns. That should help train your ears to strums. For example, I never knew about the count solidsnake spoke of O.o
But if you listen alot and closely, you'll figure out when to change chords in any song.

I think the word you're looking for here is "add a few songs to my repertoire".

I took music when I was highschool and played a viola. That counting thing is part of musical notation of reading the beats. It's good to know when you get more serious about music, but it works too just by listening to the song to get the feel.
When you listen to the song, just concentrate on the guitar sound. Plus watching videos of how YUI (or any other artist you are learning from) plays the song will help.
Mandor - June 14, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
Ezak, I just watched your videos on youtube, and I must say, for someone who only started playing a few months ago, you're really good! I think it's amazing! If I could play half as well as you, I'd be happy hehe.
I don't suppose you plan on making a video of Tokyo? :D
JustAnotherYUILover - June 14, 2007 01:21 AM (GMT)
@Mandor: Ezak hasn't been active for like the passed days/weeks. But I'm sure some other members can assist you. I'm sorry I can't help you because I've only been playing the guitar for 2 months(I'm not a fast learner like Ezak) and I've never really looked into playing Tokyo.
EzakNoKaze - June 22, 2007 08:26 PM (GMT)
=P
Hey people! Toronto was fun! XP
Anyways...Tokyo...Do you want me to do it on standard tuning or dropped tuning(original)??? O.o
s0l1dsn8k3 - June 22, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
You were in Toronto, Ezak? How come you didn't give us Torontonians a shout?
EzakNoKaze - June 23, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
I had to stick with my cousin because he went there alone...
Didn't want to be mean and dump him there while I have fun with fellow YUI-Lovers XP
Maybe next time XD
