Samart - April 16, 2007 09:17 PM (GMT)
Hello all. My favorites japanese movies are Ozu Yasujirô's movies 小津 安二郎.
I recommend you "Sanma no aji", "Tôkyô Monogatari", "Higanbana" and "Akibiyori". "Ohayô" is very funny. so you should see it too.
I really like his movies because he really show you how is Japan deep mentality and what is a family in there. Ôzu sensei was a deep lover of Tôkyô and shot most of his movie there.
Sanma no aji (my number one japanese movie ever) :

Higanbana :

Tôkyô monogatari :

His last 6 movies were shot in color... All previous are in black and white.
Any person interested in Japan's culture should see Ozu sensei movies...

Not that old, they were shot in 1950's and 1960's. They are very good movies. You should see "Sanma no aji" first, it is in color. (released in 1962). I am sure you will like it. My little sister saw it with me and she liked it. (She was 17 when she saw it)
I have all the colored movies in DVD box. In France, Ozu have many fans, like Kurosawa Akira. A new box have just been released too.
!!!! Thank you Arte VIDEO !!!!
French Box 1 (five colored movies) :

French Box 2 :

Taiyo no Uta
Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman
Spriggan (animated)
Battle Royale
My buddy recommends Uzumaki, but I haven't watched it yet. He also suggested watching some of Takeshi Miike's work, some of which are supposed to be pretty gruesome.

I like Shinobi & Azumi...
Samart - October 22, 2007 10:27 AM (GMT)
7 samurai is sure a good movie, Even if Mifune is not my favorite actor. One of my favorite actors should be Sanada Hiroyuki. He is every where, he was in "RING" too. He is the bad guy in RUSH HOUR 3, with Jackie Chan and CHris TUCKER.
I saw Water Boys. I think it's a funny movie too. My fisrt movie with Tsumabuki-kun. (
born the same year than me, like Takeuchi Yûko...LOL number 1...)
Of course, I saw all the Ghibli studio's movies, except the "Howl's Moving Castle" and the last "Teremer Legend" thing, by the son of Hayao Miyazaki.
Anna !!! I like Mimi wo sumaseba too. saw Ren'ai shashin too. :)
(Hirosue Ryôko san was born the same year than me too. :) LOL number 2)I saw Shinobi. Didn't like it to much, even I think Nakama Yukie and Odagiri Joe are cool. Saw Azumi too. This one, I already forgot it. LOL number 3.....

Do you mean "Gedo Senki" (aka Tales From Earthsea)? lol.
I bought the "Gedo Senki" DVD when I was in Japan because I found out that it's not going to be released in the US until some ridiculous year.. like 2009 or something, lol. Something about copyright stuff..
OH, I forgot to list "Water Boys"! And "Ringu".. oooh, and "Dark Water".
Speaking of Japanese movies, you all should check out
http://www.crunchyroll.com! It's really amazing.. it has pretty much every Japanese movie you can think of :] Plus, it has J, K, and C-Dramas, anime, J-Pop vids etc; It's really great. You have to join to view vids, but signing up is free and fast.
Samart - October 23, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)
Thank you Anna ! Yes, I meant "Dego Senki", by Goro Miyazaki (Miyazaki Goro). I said "Terremer Legends" because in France, it had been released under the name "Les Contes de Terremer", wich means "Tales of Terremer".

:rolleye Frenchs movies distributors always adapt titles ... I guess the "Earthsea" is called "Terremer" in this movie... maybe...
THANK YOU for the crunchyroll link ! I will register... i'm curious.
