Hey everyone rather new to the site ƒc

This is a mini guide to install East Asian Languages onto your computer.

Microsoft Xp
I recently bought a new computer so it had all the files and wotnot on it, but i think its necessary to have all your microsoft service pack updates.

First go to Start >>>>Settings>>>> Control Panel
in this window, there should be an option
"Date, time, language, and Regional Options" - Click that.

After that, it should show some options such as changing time format, date and time and add other languages

Press that option and a smaller screen should appear.
in that screen theres three choices

Regional Options, Languages, And Advance

Pick the language option and there should be a few boxes that you can check

Check the boxes
Install files for complex script@and right to left languages
Install files for East Asia Languages

*note* im not sure if it will promp looking for a cd, mine didnt require one, and i tried doing it on another older pc, and it said its necessary to have service pack- not really sure about this, can someone help clarify?

it should install all the languages and restart pc
after its restarted, return back to the Regional Option, language, and advance screen

click languages
click details
"add" - Japanese
input - Japanese
keyboard - should be selected for you if u clicked japanese
Apply or OK

it should have both english and japanese keyboard styles

the language bar should pop up on your screen or hiding near your task bar at the bottom of the screen.

to use it,
press alt+ shift@and the language bar should swap from english keyboard to japanese keyboard.

to choose whether to type hiragana or katakana
have the language bar in the japanese keyboard style
click the button (right next to the red circle or blue circle<<changes colors every now andthen)
"Input mode" and choose how you want your keyboard to type
to swap languages simply click alt+ shift again

to type japanese, go in google or anything, and have your input mode selected and it will type in romaji characters until you combine sylables like "wa or tsu" something of that nature, it will form into the japanese characters.

play around with it, until you can get the hang of how to use it, and then try to find a picture with both english words and japanese characters and practice typing them.
At first i used Taiyou no Uta, trying to form words and understand how the program works.
also when typing japanese words, it will form all the characters then at the end of the word you can hit "spacebar" and it gives you a selection of choices that can be written in kanji and it has a little dictionary of what the word means. unfourtantly its in japanese so it doesnt prove that much useful for me since i cant understand it.

i hope this helps.
this is the microsoft explanation
